Built 450R vs 250R?

This winter I'll be either doing a new motor on my 86 250R(295cc now) or considering a big bore 4 stroke. I had a 08 kfx450R that wasn't built and I really hated how it sat and handled. I know. With the right suspension the 250R can handle with any of them but motor is my concern. I'm considering a 363 R with a CPI industries sphynx cylinder ported and floed by bdt motorsports. Bdt is pulling mid-high 60s hp with torque numbers to rival 4 stroke dyno pulls that I've seen. I guess I'm wondering if a bb 4 stroke will be a time bomb up in the mid-top 60s hp. Is there really a edge with the 4 stroke or is a bb 250R still the one to beat?

shearer or mccoy for the sphinx or puma cylinders

they did most of the testing with calvin in the development of those cylinders

the sphinx will make into the 70s as a 363 and it will take a 65-70hp 450r to run with one the 450r isn't a time bomb at that power but its going to be a 3-3500 dollar motor combo to get there

I wish I had someone around here with a 450 built to put out Atleast around 60hp for me to test, that has to be pretty **** nasty. I've always been a 2 stroke man but I'm at the point where I want to see what a really built 4 strokes like. I like how a well built 2 stroke goes when you know how to ride it but once again Id like to experience a high hp 4 stroke.

Honestly the well built 330R's here are still destroying the 450R's in Open class. They smoke the 4 strokes off the line and the snap carries them over everything. Not to mention they are lightweight. Now if someone could throw a build 250R motor in an aluminum chassis like your KFX or a Cannondale, that would be one of the meanest machines out there.

After coming from a two stroke to the four, I can honestly say that the torque is impressive but you do notice the luggishness. And it's not as fun to ride. But make sure you put a good chunk of change into the suspension too.

With my kfx450R I felt it was a great trail/play bike but it was stock performance wise so I can't say it was slow because it wasn't bad for bone stock. The handling IMO was TERRIBLE. My style is staying in mid rpms most the time or high rpms. I believe I'm a 2 stroke guy when it comes to race bikes but I still have a blast on a 4 stroke. Like I said I need to ride a really competitive 450 so I have a better comparrison. My buddy had a pretty built yfz450 that ran on race fuel, not sure on engine specs but it could stay close behind my 65hp pump banshee in drags. Ive ridden that and it was fast but the powerband wasnt a rush for me. He is a more talented rider though that kid gets on people's bikes 2 or 4 and shows them up on their own machines lol.

IMHO the kfx450 looks cool but is NOT among the top dogs in the 450 class
(Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, DS and KTM are all ahead of the kfx in my opinion)

You looking for a one trick pony or something that does it all well?

I'm looking for the handling which either a R or any of the 450s can be set up great to do(although how my currant 250R is set up it handles great already). I guess I'm looking for a motor that will out run everything I run in to and while I think a 363 or 330/+4 R is pretty untouchable I want to see what guys in the 450 game have to say. Getting another 450 is a thought but I don't believe they can hang with a 330+ R equal riders. Keep in mind I'm in CT and most likely won't ever have to deal with a full on no money limit all out big bore 450.

Yes a protrax is a laeger chassis. Well the front ends are called protrax but I refering to the whole chassis. Ive never seen a mx 450 that would run with my old 350 pro x cylinder. 4 strokes are such sleds after fixed up. But that being said I would take a 450 on a muddy slick track. Ive raced both and they are completely different riding styles.

Another thought is to take my 310 and have it ported and floed with a +4 stroker crank. I could see upwards of 55hp with that simple set up. This winter I'll be getting everything I need to run some of the hare scrambles in CT and possibly ny. Money wise I'm starting to think it makes more sense to finish what I have already it's not bad to start with.
