I recently bought a 05 trx450r the guy I bought it from put full white brothers exhaut on it but did not rejet it. I also want to take the lid off. What jet kit should I buy and what jet should I start with. also would like to know whats stock in the carb? Im kinda new to working on atvs had an old beater but never had to work on it. i am a car mechanic but not to many cars have carbs these days. any info would be great thanks!

the jetting was not as hard as i thought it would be its east to get to the carb to, remove the gas tank and you can access the needle to remove the carb unhook it from where it connects to the head and air box and pull out then you can flip it and get to your jets just make sure when you put everything back you DO NOT pinch any hoses i pinched a crank case hose and my motor was blowing oil into my air box!!! as far as where to start im not sure mines running 100% correct so ill let someone better tell you that, i am learning though

with a full exhaust and airbox lid off, I would go to around a 175-180.
and on the 05 you don't need to take anything off to change the jet. Just loosen the clamps and rotate the carb to access the bottom. 3 minute job.

That carb has a 48 pilot and like a 118 main in it bone stock.
You can either go buy a full 04/05 HRC jet kit......or just go buy a 180 main and a 50 pilot, and buy an HRC needle from your local Honda dealer. Also, turn the fuel mixture screw out to about 2 turns from fully seated. That's for no lid too.
Should be close or dead on.

It's actually very simple. Four screws holds the top cap on the carb. Take the top off and look inside and you'll see two small screws in the bottom. Use a magnetic screwdriver and take those screws out. The whole assembly will lift up and swing out of the way (don't worry it won't fall apart). At the bottom, you'll see the tip of the needle. Use some needlenose pliers and pull the needle out and replace with new needle. Reverse the steps and you're done. Hope this helps.
