xc spring question

just curious if anyone has any experience with this

for racing xc would it be better to have a dual rate front setup or triple rate being the 3rd rate spring is a zpl spring and doesnt actually do anything except lower the ride height/ ground clearance

i mean gt thunder use to be a triple rate but switched to a dual rate and there has to be a reason

ill probably pull the zpl spring off my front elkas and try it, just wondering if anyone else has done it?

rick, I wouldn't bother using zps for xc racing..

I would say the reason gtt guit using triple rate and went to dual rate
was they could get a better spring curve/valving with the dual.

sent Laz an e-mail and he can help you better than me.

yea thats what i figured and since my a-arms where already off i might as well pull that spring off to try it out

but it wont matter anyway im sending them to laz in a couple months anyway
GTT was only a Trip Rate for a Short While (VERY SHORT WHILE) then when he started to really get the rebuilds going he used the Progressive spring for the BEST spring curve out of all the springs you could ever use ...

The dual rate spring set up that GTT uses now is the most efficeint way of getting good quick hit control along with haveing plenty of MAIN Spring to soak up the big hits .... The Trip Rate just cost more with the extra spring and on a SHORT Stock shock you would have to go into a shorter Main spring causing issues with spring curve thoughout the shock travel ....

The Dual rate set up on the GTT stuff now is the Closest to best of both worlds for the time being ...

very smart move, and go for the xc valving/setup..you gonna get the rear to match?

right now i have front elka ST that are going to get revalved a little smoother with more rebound converted to dual rate, the rear i have a elka elite LT that will get sent in for a oil change and re-charge, that rear shock works perfect as it is
do you know what the rear shock was setup for?

I'm just saying to get that balanced/almost perfect setup, front to rear,
and not knowing exactly what the rear shock is setup for, you would
be better off doing both at the same time.

that way you will know for "sure" what's ya got.

yea i know what ya mean, i mean all 3 shocks will be going at the same time so but the rear was setup for 150lb mx but its still super soft and i jump about anything i can so xc valving would kill me, i would stop racing xc if i couldnt jump lol

you really wouldnt believe how great the rear shock is but still ill go with whatever laz reccomends when he gets them

i want a very comfortable setup that can still take some big jumps
