Noticed a large crack on my sprocket hub so i pulled it off to get it welded because I assume it would be a simple
fix. Uppon taking it off and cleaning it up I noticed 2 more cracks in similar spots and I noticed that the back side of the sprocket hub is chewed up but no signs of wear or carnage near the seal or axle bearing, no metal shavings or anything either. Not sure what caused this. There is maybe a 1/16” of play in the axle up and down if not less than that. I was going to buy a new hub but im not sure if ill just ruin that one aswell… any input would be appreciate.

Perhaps a nut fell off and got wedged in between, was all the hardware there when you removed it? Barbed wire might have wrapped around. With all the ears on the hub being cracked I'd say either the bolts got loose, or something got pinned in between. Seems likely that whoever was riding would've felt or heard it.
