Was wondering if anyone has done this? We run mid-south harescrambles and its real tight and i think this would help. Our quads get hard to start after a lap or so. Thanks

if your quad is not overheating i dont see a need to do that. dont forget when the fans comes on , that isnt a sign of overheating. some people mistake it, i would say if the red light isnt coming on often dont hook it up directly, also it wont help the quad start easier if your stating it heats so much the uqad doesnt start? explain further.

the wires coming from the fan should be wraped in a black sheith, open it up and figure out which one is the ground. After figuring that out get a extension wire and run it to a good place on the frame to ground it, get a clip, one thats circular with just a hole in the center works best. Then ground it out to the frame, kick her over and she should have the fan on as long as the bike is running, thats how my desert bike is.

not sure about having the fan come on ALL the time...

simply remove the wire going to the 'sensor'..... and run it to a toggle switch...then ground the other lead from the toggle...... this way you can turn your fan on or off.....at any given time..... you can leave your fan on while the bike sits and allow it to cool between heat races..... just make sure you dont run your battery dead..... a temp gauge helps bunches in this case...

good luck...Greg

Rossier says we need to wire our fans to run all the time since we run such a tight course. He says the dummy light wont come on till its way to hot so if it does its to late anyways.
I dont see how regrounding the ground wire will make the fan run can you explain a little further eric??
Tough to run the fan without the bike running on a kicker!!!!
Thanks for all the great info

Your going to burn out your fan much faster this way... but, yeah I'd go with Greg's idea about the toggle, having it run all the time is not needed....

all fans will burn out eventually dude... nature of the the beast... all electric motors burn out some time... just depends on how you take care of them... and its not hard to flip a switch on your handle bars to turn a fan on is it?

since i am a electrician i understand motors amd their longevity. What I cant understand is how anyone could remember to flip it every time they thought they needed to.

LoL...k heres what I did....mostly because I broke my temp sensor...

Look by the thermostat... unplug that wire and find a clip that will fit in there...If you an electrition you must have many on them...

Now Hook it to a wire keeping the other end open and plug it it...cuz the insulation off the end of the wire and rap it around one of the thermostat 6mm bolts...essentially grounding out the circit...The problem with this is your high temp light will come on as well as the fan... I wasnt to worried about overheating without a light because I can always smell the coolant and it just makes a mess everywhere...the light kicks in wayyy to late anyway...

I think the only thing you havn't broken is your airfilter..... o_O and your headlight.... and your clutch lever...

...atleast I know who to take my quad to if i want more aftermarket parts for replacement...... jesus mit... i'll ship my quad to you... i'll probly get it back in about 40 smaller boxes filled with scrap metal and melted plastic... somewhere in there i'll find a motor... with a crank through the cases. and a valve gone through the top of my piston :lol2:

Haha...probably...honda should let me test things...

It wasnt really me who broke it...you know the people who try and mess with your quad so when you start it you look like an ass cuz it wont start?

Well the fricker decided to pull my spark plug cap off...but he went in from the wrong side and while trying to fit his fat hand in there he bent and broke that tab.....

LoL i have gone through a bunch of bulbs...does that count?

Airfilter Ive been lucky with...

And its amazing my levers are still there....the trick is to not tighten them right up...so when you roll they just twist on the bars instead of breaking... See im not a total Fcuk up..:p

Brian from WPP is absolutely correct......I have had my engine well into 230*...and no red light.... so I would NOT rely on that red light to tell you when to turn on your fan......

and yes...I forgot yours was a kicker....I can let mine run between races....even with the engine off......it helps cool the engine down faster....

no...I wasnt implying trying to turn the fan on/off DURING a race.... simply giving YOU the ability to decide when and when not to turn the fan on.....

I would have run 'most' of the time.....but there are times when you probably dont need a fan running......like winter times....or when your trying to warm your bike up.... or just testing the bike..... etc.... the toggle simply allows YOU to decide when the fan comes on....thats all....

p.s....I would have left mine hooked up to the thermal switch if the dang thing wasnt set so HIGH......dont know about yours...but my fan doesnt come on till about 220*....and thats just too flipping hot for me..... and so far...I havnt found an aftermarket sensor set to a lower temp..... humm.. are there any 'inventors' in the audience?

good luck...jmho....Greg

I know Bryn took one off a rincon when his broke...and his fan came on alot earlier...you may wanna give honda a call and see if they can comment on the different resistants behind the different temp sensors...
