I am going to get an aftermarket cam. I want more low-end and an increase across the board. Right now I'm looking at the HRC, Hot Cams stage1, or the Sparks. I want to be able to use stock springs and rockers. Thoughts and ideas would be appreciated?

Stay away from the HRC it's only for high end! As far as Hotcam or Sparks, call both company's and tell them what you want and then decide. Remember though, you will not feel that much of a difference unless you do something else. Like exhaust or maybe the FCR 39mm carb. I know it sounds like allot, but you get what you pay for. Either pipe or carb will give more low end and power all the way through with the cam!! :D

I have to disagree with this...You will feel a big difference with just the Sparks Cam and no other mods....But I would recommend jetting and a pipe, or HRC exhaust tip....but you will feel very good gains with just the cam.....

The only reason I said just a cam would do much is because I put a stage 1 HRC cam in my 400ex(which is the xr cam). Now, I know these two motors are allot different between the 400ex and the 450r. But, the 400 HRC cam did not help the bike that much! But, when I added a pipe with it after the cam, then they both work together and I saw a big difference.

Just so you know, servicehonda.com has the '02 CRF cam for much cheaper than the Sparks. All Sparks does is buy these cams and put them in his packaging and sell them for more $$$.

all cams will have power gains. Hrc will have mostly top end (have it in my 450R) The hot cams stg 2 will have an increase in low-mid - n some more top end, mostly low-mid.. the other cams , havent tried them in my 450R.What i could tell you from my experience..

In my 06 450 the hrc gave more power all around.
I have raced my buddies from when i was stock and now and no matter where we are in the band the hrc walks outs so saying its a top end cam would be very misleading.
Quad pulls night and day difference regardless of the rpm.

what people will have to get straight is that the HRC cam is actually 2 completely different cams now....

the HRC cam of '04-'05 models....which is a great...and top end biased cam

the HRC cam of '06 models....which is a wide range cam....the '05 crf oem cam

so when we talk about these different cams\machines...it is important to differentiate what model of HRC cam we are talking about

With all this cam talk, I never hear much about the RHC 187 cam. I would  to see a heads-up test against the 187 vs. the HC2 vs. the HRC on a stock bore machine....

i haven't tested an '05 crf cam...so i couldn't say for sure.... i'll have to wait till i get booster back home for that one

but i will say without reservation that the HC STG 2 is a truly amazing "do it all' performer in the trx

well from ride reviews it sounds like the 04/05crf cam is going to take them all down..........and if sparks switched to the 05 cam theres something there....(could it be more power.. :ermm: )

i called sparks when i first got my trx and they told me to use the 02 crf cam.but for drag racing that cam did not cut it.. :( ..cost me $250 too.......costly mistake.

i raced a guy with a sparks cam and 13.8 piston 2weeks ago.....and beat him by 2 bikes two times on pavement.

with his compression i thought he would win.........guess the hrc is the best for dragging.

this could of had something to do with it also

me 15/39 on 18"tires

him 14/38 on 20" stock

nope...

sparks has sold a load of '02 crf cams...so now saying they are new & improved he can sell cams to not only new people...but to the people he already sold '02 oem cams to...now that is great marketing!
(could it be more money$$$ :ermm: )

i seriously doubt the '05 cam has any chance of "taking them all down"...like i said before, the HCstg2 cams are so inexpensive and readily available as a simple drop in...that nobody is going to dare compare them heads up against other cams and hand out correct dyno info

you pick the other engine mods...then pick you intended RPM range...and pick your cam based on the other engine and use parameters
