And Cycle World Magazine once again gave the R6 the Middle Weight Sportbike of the Year. There is a reason for that. Just look at an AMA Supersport starting grid and tell me which bike the racers like. The top 10 places usually have 5 or 6 Yamahas and 2 or 3 Kawasakis and maybe a couple Suzukis. The top placing Honda was in 28th place, or something like that, at Fontana. It's not necesarrily HPO that rules the roost either, it's power-to-weight and the Yamaha has that in spades along with unbelievable brakes and handling.

Sorry about your choice Little Brother.

Weight (ZX6R 362lbs), (ZX6RR 361lbs), (CBR600RR 361lbs), (YZF R6 357lbs), (GSXR600 354lbs)

Power to weight ratio% (ZX6R 31.82%), (ZX6RR 30.80%), (CBR600RR 29.63%), (GSXR600 29.37%), (YZF R6 29.29%)

All horsepower numbers were taken from a neutral source (Akrapovic) and the weight from each manufacturer.

ZX6R(636) :hey:

You also have to consider thats peak hp. You might consider average hp which is something to consider on bikes, quads, etc. If you get a bike that makes 150hp but does it only between 10k-11k what fun is that? now if you have a bike that makes 130-140hp between 7-11 that would be alot more fun!

But the main part is having something you enjoy riding,,,If you simply get the fastest thing out there and can only ride it for an hour at a time without an on call chiropractor then whats the point. If I were you I would spend more time stiing on these things rather than gathering HP #'s. Theyre ALL fast bikes!! Get the one that makes your a$$ and back happy!!

Good luck! Don

Im not extremely crazy about crotch rockets but If I were to get one Id get a Honda Interceptor. Its fast and fun and still comfy to ride all weekend,,,not just a few hours at a time.

I bought a 2000 R6 when i was stationed @ ft. bliss texas. I cant imagine that yamaha has done anything to down-grade its performance or mainly the way the bike corners. Even newbies will have that beeeatch cornerin like Nickey Hayden in only a few hours. My Honda loyalty dies here.

You are absolutely correct about the HP and comfort. I did some research on all their dyno graphs form Akrapovic, I studied their HP over the whole RPM range and the ZX still comes out on top. Comfort is a toss up between the CBR and the ZX, so the jury is still out but leaning heavily in one direction. :)

Those HP numbers won't be noticeable on the street with unless you are riding with pros. Your everyday sportbike rider doesn't even know how to ride the bike to it fullest potential. You could get a 600 and mop a guy on a 750 or 900+ in the corners, sure he'll smoke you on the straight, but who can't twist a throttle??

All of them are good choices, you just need to find one that fits you. Maybe you're too tall for one, or the bars are too far forward for your liking (much added weight on your wrists) etc. Also pipes that run under the seat tend to put off more heat on your butt and thighs in the summer months than the older style side pipe.

I voted for the gsxr I ride a 750, but it would definately be between it or the ninja. I have ridden the others and just wasn't to crazy abou tthe yammy or really about the 600rr. Most of the people I ride with say the 600rr is very uncomfortable after a little while of riding, but it does have good power and rides a lot better than the older Honda bikes.

Boone- I had a 99 ZX-6R. The bike was awesome. Great power and handling for the price, but after 6 months I was wanting more power.
My buddy had a GSXR 750, and this bike was on a entirely different level. The power was never ending, the handling was supreme.
Since then I have had many of my friends ask the same question you asked... GET THE GSXR750, ITS COMPELETY WORTH EVERY PENNY- YOU WONT BE DISAPPOINTED!!!!!!!!

I just bought a 2005 Kawasaki Ninja ZZR600. It looks like the 2000-2001 ZX6R Ninjas. I'm currently stripping it down and painting it jet black. My previous bike was a 2003 SV650S. It was a great beginner bike, plenty of midrange. It just doesn't have the power or sound of an inline-4. Any 600 would be great, just buy one and RIDE.

I used to road race sport bikes in the 600 class. They are decent for racing, but they aren't all that quick as a street bike. It's kinda like buying a 125cc 2 stroke to trail ride with.....

I'd buy a liter bike if I was buying a streetbike. And I'm not real brand loyal either, any liter bike would do.

I would go with the bigger bikes ,I had the R1 I loved it, I have lots of friends who have the 600's and they are fun and handle a little better ,however the big boys handle very well and on the open highway there is no comparrison on power distribution ,tho power is always ready to where on the 600 class bike its got a lot more gear changing to keep the rpm's up ,the gixxer 750 is a great bike probably the allrond best ,but its price tag is close to a 1000 so if your a power nut go for the beast so you dont want it later it will save you a lot of trouble !

Before anyone goes out and buys a crotchrocket go check to see what insurance will cost, if they will even insure you. i had one heck of a time finding someone to insure me 2 yrs ago. get liability, full coverage for me on a 600cc would have been $2900/yr. check it out before you buy.

cheapest place for insurance is state farm ,mine was about 300 a year ,I had to change over everything though ,house car etc.Everywhere else was outrageous cheapest I could find was 1000 a year! They go CC's not type of bike.

hey i work at a bike shop as a salesman and i ride 2 i have a 600rr honda if u wanna know witch bikes are best ask me i know everything from chassis charastics and engine performance cuz i get to ride them all,you either the honda or the gsxr, the 06 gsxr is by far the sickest in looks, mainly cuz of the tank but the honda has better character, more nimble, more forgiving to mistakes, hi or low speed, smooth power and its a honda, the gsxr has better grunt in the engine mainly cuz of the new motogp style exhaust(exits under right foot),nice low center of gravity, so thats only part of the conclusuion.

oh another thing is dont get the yamaha, there buying them back, really a recall but nothing life threataning, the tacomater is off, it doesnt rev to 17500, only to 15500 on any dyno and only 102.9 hp ask any yami dealer, they have to tell u but only if u ask

#49 ·
It actually revs to 16000 and makes 112 rwhp.

There is no recall. A customer and dealer letter was sent and explained if the customer wants, Yamaha will buy back their bike if they are disappointed enough in the rpm levels. It makes full power and runs just fine, it's juist the calibration of the tach is off.
