Tranny issues AGAIN ! !

as you can imagine by the topic....my tranny gave way again...... this time it was kinda odd....... 4th gear just stopped working......

in the past....as they begin to wear from stress...or worn parts..... the tranny will begin to 'kick back' out of a gear... usually shifting from 3rd into 4th....the bike will begin to kick back under hard accel/nitrous use..... but never when just play riding.... then eventually it continues to wear....and sooner or later it must be fixed...... but even after time, I could always 'ease' my way into 4th gear.......and it would stay so long as I was easy on the throttle..... once pressure was applied it would kick back into 3rd again..... typical worn dog syndrome.....

however....this time.....it just stopped going into 4th all together....I mean out of the blue......it would run/shift great... next thing I know.....4th gear was gone.... if you shifted up once from 3rd to 4th....it would just stay in 3rd... if you shifted up twice (double shift)...it would go right into 5th..... but as soon as you down shift......it dropped to 3rd... as if 4th gear DISAPPEARED...... (probably not a good thing).... .

at any rate.....ill hafta take her apart and find out what actually happened..... I was just curious if anyone has found out about some new technology...or new tranny experts that perform some type of miracle on these gears to stop this issue..... as you know......I had my tranny gears treated by Rage....and they worked great.... but lost a cheap thrust wasther which destroyed both 3rd and 4th gear a while back.....so naturally I just replaced them with stock parts....and that aint working.......so if there is nothing new out there...im gonna have Rage build me up another 3rd and 4th gear for my machine.......and hope they continue to hold up....

thanx guys.....Greg

That sucks. Let us know what the problem is. I have my tranny out at moto-xperts right now having their "tranny mod" done. Talked to the owner, Toby, and he said he has never had one of his customers return a tranny for more work.

whats their tranny mod?
im real interested in these transmission mods too, who do you talk to? websites? ect..

id like to read up, cause now im gonna be running a lockout as well with more power.. might mean bad things for my transmission.
It is basically the same mod that most shops do to the trannies. It notches the gears out a little more where they connect to help keep them from wearing and jumping out of gear. Atleast that's my understanding.
alright, any links to the site? if i do/did this mod, i would be sending it out.

not interested in tearing into the transmission.

Do a search for moto xperts on this site. there are a lot of people that have had this mod and are happy with the results. I talked to Toby before sending mine out and he is a great guy. Knows his stuff and builds some serious bikes. His shop can do anything you could possibly think of.
just called moto-x, cool guys. mod is pretty cheap, its just a matter of tearing into it to send them out the parts.

what's the price if you don't mind? and what parts of the tranny do they want?
basically wanted everything from the transmission to inspect it, which is fine by me.

its $120 for the mod. i expected alot more, but its just notching the gears for 3rd and 4th from what i understood.
Damn Greg, sorry to hear that bro.

Crack open a cold one and break out the tool box.

Get up some pictures so we can see what went on in there.....please that is.

EDIT: how ironic, there is a transmission repair ad at the bottom of this page....lol

LOL. Now its a tire and wheel ad.
I thikn atp has new gears(high streangh) not re worked stock ones that work realy good from what i hear but there like $200 per gear i also heard sparks has gears to but i am not sure if they are re worked stockers or not
any one try having the gears cryogenically treated ? I know the nascar teams would have the rear end and transmission gears done, I have had a few things treated and its not really expensive
