You’re not giving it gas while starting? Is it uncommon for this to happen?

To be honest man I have never even given this bike a good ride lol, bought it middle of winter, unable to ride due to snow, did every bearings and bushings, head gasket, top end, chain and sprockets, just went to give it a test ride in the driveway to adjust the new clutch lever, started and I shut it off, went to start again and then what I said above happened lol, not giving it gas or anything. Looks like the one way bearing is completely seized up solid, I changed all fluids however I did noticed the old fluid extremely old and black in color, maybe old fluid got inside the bearings. Hopefully new parts from the dealer won’t cost too much. Looking like I’ll need the reduction gear and the one way starter gear and a good cleaning of the case.
Wow sorry to hear that. Weird. But these machines are old (i forget what year yours is) original parts go later or later lol. your better off replacing the whole shabang anyways. So maybe a blessing in disguise. Imo It could have been worse, so im gonna say lucky even tho its in pieces. Plus you’re doing the work so even if you over pay for parts at the dealer, it could be alot more.
