Im looking to gear up my R. I got tones of power and starting in first is practicly only fo moving around the yard. Im thinking of going 14-37 or even 36.

What would this give in for top speed, and would I be able to start in first after this?

Im basicly looking to hold my gears longer at WOT that shifting 1st 2nd 3rd as fast as I can.

Thanks

i'm running 15/36 on my 06.

it's hard in the trailes if someone is in front going slow. you get on the clutch alot.......but for going flat out it's great ........i can take off in 2nd gear still.......

my vapor is giving me speeds of ~73mph in 700 foot.....i haven't held it to see how fast it would run, i run out of space where i ride and cann't wind it up.....if you use the gear calculator it's say's that combo will go over 90 mph, with 22" tires??? go figure!!

but i like the 14/35 combo, it works good in the trails and for good top end.
so what will a 14-35 get me? I got 20 inch tires
I'm running 14/36 right now and thats as high as I would ever go. Thats also with 18" tires. I think its a little too high for MX. I will haul the mail down the highway though!!!!!!!! Feels like things are gonna start flying apart going that fast. Are you in a lot of open areas. I thought you were just talking about doing mostly woods riding? 14/36 would get exremely annoying in the woods.
I am 50% main roads, like dirt roads =5th gear, 20% is like old loggin roads, just smaller dirt roads pretty mutch=4th gear-5th, 20% acces roads, =3rd gear-4th, 3% is open water, 2% is tight trails=2 gear, and 10% is looooooose railroads,

basicly I wanna be able to do a good 140-150km/h Hmmm now whats that in Mph?
14-36 is all i would go with as well ... you will be dragging your clutch for a bit getting moving ... Have fun getting up to 90+ mph (150ish KM/h) ... You may need more engine work and Deff. a more stable machine for those speeds ....

But i would suggest a 14/36 for ridability ... but if you want to get NASTY, then look at the 15/36 set up ... That will be a VERY Tall gear ....
105%????????????? Does that mean you are riding on more that one area at the same time?????? hahaha jk man. Anyway. Sounds like 14/36 would be what you might want with 20" tires. Lots of open area make this gearing a lot of fun. It will allow you to have a reason to use 1st gear.
the extra 5% is either drifting or in the air! lol

Im going 14-36 thanks

Haha thats awesome, you will like it.
What is it stock size???

Might just want to get a front sprocket with a tooth more............ front sprockets are cheap to buy. And if you don't like it, you can always go back to stock.
HMMM
interesting

I can only goup one more in the front tho right?

IDK
as you change your sprockets to get more speed you lose on the bottem end.

so you need to make sure your bike has the power to handle the tall gears......if you have not already done so put the hrc kit or bump the power up so you can pull the gears..........i found that having the carb right will take out the bog that tall gears will cause. if you don't have the motor to pull those tall gears you will not like it.

i just went to my 15/36 combo and it's a beast and works just fine, but i had to address the carb and make sure it was dailed in so it would take off without having to feather the clutch.....it's not a good trail gear especally if they are tight trails.....i have switched back to my 14/38 just to run in the woods....but dragracin' it's (15/36) the chizzels....makes the bike very fast......

i think you can put a 16 on the front but you will lose the case saver and i would never run one without the case saver........you can get split spockets, that are 33,34 and 35 for the rear.........the combo i like the best for my bike is the 14/35.........remember one tooth on the front is like changing 3 teeth on the back.
with the 14/36 just keep the revs up and drop the clutch and spin those tires it will not stay where you are long because you'll be gone.

stock gearing on the 06 is 13/38

HAHA, bump up the horse power?

I am already running a 480 big bore with 12:5:1 and HCII

So you're running a 15 tooth front with the OEM case saver?

I myself want to try a tooth more on the front on my 06... :hey:

If you are still gonna run the case saver...Which you should....get an aftermarket, they will be much more reliable. I am gonna try 13/38 on my 05 for mx today will post back later how it worked.

yes you need a aftermarket case saver........ the stock case saver will not fit with the 15 ........and almost hits the aftermarket case saver i have............but don't run with out your case saver, it could be very bad if you have a chain jump off.....i kinda like the 14/36 combo it works for my riding..........just me
I'm looking to buy an aftermarket case saver as we speak.

Took the stock one off to clean my engine last time I used my quad and don't plane to put it back on until I get another one.
I never checked...... what size is stock front sprocket?

it's different on the 05's, but 06 is 13/38 stock.....i think 05's trans is geared higher than 06.
