Hey y’all, new here and new to the race quad scene, I am technically inclined as I work on automotive for a living. Anyways I picked up an 08 Trx450 to fix up, noticed no rear brake, found leaking caliper, went to replace it and found that the rotor has worn 1/2 way into the old caliper. Found there is not enough clearance between the caliper bracket and the rotor for the caliper to fit. Assumed rear carrier bearings, no play found or sign or work bearings. Ordered new parts anyways. Trying to figure out what could be causing this, is it possible the rotor hub is worn down so much it is going into the carrier too far causing less room between bracket and caliper which is why new caliper won’t fit? Thanks. Again new to these and the whole setup. Seems like when comparing pictures I have less clearance than others with a properly working setup

its likely 2 things

1. rotor hub is worn and out of round. seen it many times where its almost oblong its worn so much. if you get a new one spring for clean used oem or brand new oem.

2. the rotor is severely bent to cause it to rotate hitting the caliper

You're definitely missing the bearing on that end, and if you can see in my pic, there's a metal sleeve that runs from about 1/4" away from the two end bearings on the inside of the carrier housing. Sleeve has about 3/16" walls and is approx. 5" long. Sorry for not having better measurements as I'd have to uninstall bearings to get good specs. I will if needed.

Thanks so much jeremy, thanks for the pics. I have a full carrier on the way now. I’m use to mechanical stuff but new to these bikes, completely going over this bike and loving it. Thanks again for the pics and help bud

Ain't nothing to it but to do it, Duuubby!! When mine started to go, I ordered a complete new assembly, and a rebuild kit for my factory carrier, that way I always have one greased and ready should the unfortunate occur. Also drilling for a grease zerk or two to the center of the carrier greatly reduces wear, as no more disassembly to grease, unless something really bad happens.
