Oil sight lense questions / problem...

972 Views 8 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  short4stuff
So I got my engine back together. New hr +3, hc2 cam, new crank bearings.
When the engine is running and you look at the sight lense, the oil isn't "flowing" or maybe running down the lense like it used to. I am going to pull the case off tomorrow and have a look to see what I may have done wrong. But I am looking for any suggestions...

I am sure I put the oil drain pipe on the right way.
Also check the oil cooler for pressure while the bike is running, and there is pressure there.

did you maybe overfill it? I know that I have a bit to mutch in at tims and it dosent do that bubling flow we are use to. give it about 1/2 throtle hold it for a second or 2 and look at it it should start moving around. if not then start thinking it over again.

good luck
it will also do this is the oil is not fully up to temp...
Did you assemble the oil pump assembly right? What about the oil pump gear and jesus clip, are they on correctly?

ha ha if by jesus clip you mean the circlip then yes its on there. Yes the oil pump is together right.

I start the engine and take off the oil cap and look down and I can see the oil "squirter" squirting oil at the magneto/flywheel. So the pump is working.

I have probably 4-5 hours on the engine now, no boom yet.

When the oil gets hot ya it does move around a good amount more than when it is cold.

I have an 04 model. And my buddy has an 08. I see the sight lense is in a different spot, and well his flows/runs down the lense alot more than mine, but his is different.

I guess the real question is does the 06-08 models oil appear to move more than the 04-05's?
YES they do!!!
i wondered that at one point in time too...
the 06-08's flow oil in the sight glass like mad....
my 04 and 05 do it when the engine is HOT.
when its cold you can just see it gulp it down...
