Off the shelf oils? Which ones are best?

ive done a little browsing in the maintance forum, ect. im seeing alot of people use mobil 1 oils? my dealer parts guy, who is pretty knowledgeable told me to just run mobil 1 synthetic on the engine side.

what oils have been proven to actually work on engine/trans side? i always mail order my oils, because its cheaper online, $100 at a time for free shipping. id like to get some high quality synthetic oil for my new engine, and get it locally if possible.

what is safe to run that i can go to, say walmart and pickup? mobil 1 diesel ive seen a few times?

what about transmission side?

tried searching, i got a ton of threads of comparison, ect. i just want to know what i can go pickup tonight off the shelf and run, im going to buy about 10 qt's of whatever i get, i hate running out of stuff.

ive been using Mobil 1 turbo deisel oil for a while now and i think it runs soo much smoother

see it being labeled turbo diesel they can put all the good chemicals in it that is hard on the environemnt that is not in regular oils, but is good for the engine
Rotella T for the win! I'll always use Honda red bottle in the tranny though!
i have always used HP4M in the motor with good luck. i think most will agree that the honda red bottle 2 stroke tranny fluid is your best bet

What he said.... ^^^^^^^^

And you can pick up the Rotella at Wallyworld..
ok ill look into the rotella and mobil 1 stuff.

i bought 20 bottles of the hp trans fluid last time @ rockymountain, so im good on it. ive had real good luck with it, i just wondered if anything compared.

so it looks like ill swap to synthetic on the engine then, how many hours do you guys go on changes?

i realistically, changed mine probably every 5 hours.. it is kinda rediculous, i know some people go 20 hr, some 10, some every ride. im trying to keep the oil cost as efficient as possible since i change it so damn much.

I use the rotella T full synthetic on the engine side also. It's labeled as a truck/diesel oil so, like the mobil 1 diesel, it retains all the good stuff that the EPA requires to be taken out of passenger car oils. It'll cost you about $16 for a gallon at wally world. It's in the blue jug.

Like you, I change my oil way too often, lol. I change the oil after every ride for the most part. But it does pay in the end. When my builder put my crank in, he said it was the cleanest bottom end he'd ever seen and mine is an 05.
does wallyballs sell it in single quarts that you know of? i prefer singles so its easier to measure out 3/4 quart.

either way, thanks for the info. im sure it does pay off, besides i think (well i must) wrenching on the bike is fun too.
synthetic mobil one truck and suv here for 3 years now change after every ride. walmart 20 bucks for a 5 qt jug cant beat that. buy a funnel that measures out what you need.
i got the rotella T 5-40 truck stuff, dark blue container, 20 bucks for 1 gal.

sound like the right stuff?

yup and its good crap too!! thats what we run on our three hondas here at my house. on the ltr we run the white bottle rotella since that oil goes mixxed with the clutch, that one works pretty good as well.
yep thats the stuff, blue or white bottle are both good.

I use an old honda red bottle and refill it with the amount I need and keep a couple of them ready to change the oil.
thanks for the confirmation.. thats what im going to do.

since its 5 quarts, ill just prepare a few of em in the transmission oil containers.

now that i got my oil, i can do that oil change once the engine gets here :unworthy:

oh, while were on the subject, anyone have any problems with the tusk oil filters? i use to buy k&n, then i got a few tusks for cheaper cost..

It was $20 for a gallon? It must be more expensive where you're at. I just picked up a couple jugs about a week ago and they were $16 ea.

I just use the window for filling the oil. I fill it to the full line and start it up to let it circulate. Then after the oil settles, I fill it the full line again.

As far as the tusk filters, it's all I use. I tried the hiflo filters and didn't like they way they fit. The tusk filters fit a lot tighter on the filter cover whereas the hiflos were always a loose fit. I just order 4 or 5 from rocky mtn whenever I buying something else.
thanks steve, sounds like im set then..

just missing something inbetween the frame
i also picked up some "fuch's silkolene engine coolant" from my honda dealer. guy said it was better then water wetter and engine ice.

any feedback on this crap? it was like 17 bucks for 2 quarts. ill return it if it sucks lol.

I noticed an improvement when I switched to the Honda red bottle tranny fluid but I recently switched to this redline full synthetic tranny fluid and I like it even more than the honda stuff. Shifts very smooth. I've been running the Maxima 100% synthetic in the motor side and I like it but thinking about switching to the rotella t full syn for cost reasons. The maxima stuff is like $12 a quart. Here's a link to the redline tranny fluid. http://www.redlineoil.com/products_gearlub...mp;categoryID=6
