MX Engine Builder

Getting to be time for a rebuild on my 07 MX bike and I dont really know which engine builder to work with. I just started MX this year and my engine is internally stock with sparks pipe, HRC jet kit and removal of airbox lid. I want to make sure that I pick a builder that can make reliable power and a lot of it. I'm in good shape but cant really lost any more weight (about 190 right now), so I need to have some extra power to help with holeshots against some of the smaller guys. Money is not a problem because I know that you cant want big reliable power for a cheap price. Those things just dont go together. I'm look for suggestions from those of you who have dealt with builders and what your experiences were like with those builders.

I am thinking that a high compression piston (14.0:1) with port work and an upgraded cam will give me what I need. I just want to make sure I'll choose a builder that will work with me to meet my needs and help point me in the best direction. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

where are you located? I personnally like to work w/ a builder that is local if possible.
first thing first.

are you buying parts and putting the motor together yourself or are you removing the motor from your bike and and sending it out.

around here some guys thing whoever ports your head is your engine builder. but not true, send out your head to get ported by a reliable builder and then you reinstall all the parts yourself, save alot of money and become your own builder.

I dont MX but theres alot of guys on here that do, so they might be able to help you out with engine mods.

did you want to stay stockbore or bigbore?
I live in Ft. Smith, Arkansas. JH racing would be the closest to me and they are in Owasso about 2 hours away. Rage is in Cleveland, TX about 8-9 hours away.

Sandshots: I dont have time to do the work myself because I am so busy at the office, so I will be sending it out to have it built. I'd like to stay with stock bore I guess, but hopefully the builder will tell me what to do in that aspect.

I would recommend Johnny for sure. Hes a humble dude and he knows his stuff. Plus hes close.

Don't you have to stay stock bore for most races?
I would also think if your going to race MX you will want to learn your bike from the ground up, unless your going to have a pit crew at the races with you.
If you do your own building, you have a better idea of what went wrong when you break down, then can maybe fix it before the next race.
Pack up your whole Motor and send it to MOTO X-PERTS ... You want a NASTY 07 Engine Build he is the man ... But you have to let him know what you really want cause he can build ya one by accident that is WAY more than you want ...

Just give them a call and talk about the options that he can do for you ... You will be really suprised at what he can do ...

I sure was and now im on his MILD engine and it still Rips on most BIG BUILDS from other builders ...

I think you pretty much answered your own question. I know Rage builds a hell of a motor. And if they are that close, that is what I would do.

At at a lot of the races I've been to I know that there are guys running big bore setups. I'd rather stay stock bore for simplicity. I do know how to build engines and work on my quad, I simply just dont have time with work even though it wouldnt take long once the parts arrived. With my job, I dont know when I'm going to have to drop everything and go to work or talk on the phone for 3 hours. Plus, builders have a lot of little secrets that they choose not to share with the general population.

I've used Rage and I'm very pleased with the results. It's about a 5 1/2 hr drive for me and worth every bit of it. Dee will build it right and he has a dyno so when you pick it up it will be tuned perfectly.
I say send it to Buck![/b]
he'll set you up cheap lol

thats low.
I personally use WPP Racing / WICKED Motors ... they have treated me right from day one and build awesome stock bore power.

If it were me, I would call around and talk to some builders and see who gives you the best vibe before spending your hard earned cash.
