hey guys, iam new here and will be new to the 450r, my friend bought a suzuki ltr 450 and put a power comander, cherry bomb and a yoshi exhaust on his quad... when i bough my new 450r in mid winter i wanna use the rest of the winter to mod it so that it will be able to compete with his bike this year. i have hurd abouth the HRC kit and its added 50hp... out side of that kit what else could i do that is relitivly cheap , in order to compete with his ltr ?

thanks for all input in advance.

ps: where is every one getting those sporty "hand guards" for their quads handle bars ?

just to tell you my friend has a 2007 ltr with a cherry bomb and a full yoshimura pipe and i beat him with just a full pipe jet kit and filter. both running 18'' tires. but on the track is a different story he 50'' stance for his a arms and axle and that could get expensive but as for performance get a pipe and jetted right and it'll be all on the driver, but get a cam and ported head and he wont stand a chance.
Hrc kit should do the trick. If not them here comes ported head and big bore!
a good cam jeting and a pipe should do the trick

 thats what i would do to be certain of the win.
I have a 07 450er with pipe, lid off with stock 20s and my friends LTR with cherry bomb and yoshi pipe (lid off) barely beats me on top end with 22" pro wedges which hook up way better than my bike, if he had 18s or even 20s id rape him. Now that my cam is in he wont even stand a chance. Same with yfz.

iam possibly buying an 08 model.. how ever... if not i wont buy any older then an 06 model. i really know nothing about sport quads... i have only ever had a kawi 250 bayue but i sold that thing years ago.

my friend just last spring got the ltr 450, with yoshi and cherry bomb and ever since has taunting me to get a quad, so he can spank me and keeps going on and on about how his quad is race ready.

iam gitting sick of it and would like to enjoy some dirt riding, i have a honda 600rr 04 and have been vary pleased, so now i think i would like to try another quad again.

seems that the honda power up kit is the kit to go with... has any one ever did the job them selves ?

i though about the power up kit and a moto works sr4 carbon fiber exhaust, would the exhaust help or hinder my performance ?

does any one use those shock covers seems they would be a pain to clean if riding in the mud ?

and lastly if i do the power up kit, i read in dirt wheels that it would be a good idea to get a wider axel and a arms ? they claim if you get into top speed the bike gets "squirly " would wheel spacers give me a wider stance at all ?

-------------There's a few of us here that also ride the RR, it's a great bike-------------

--------It's not that hard to do if you have a little bit of technical know-how. There are plenty of articles here to help as well as many members who are willing to lend a hand.----------

-------------Any exhaust will help but there are a few that help out more than others. You might want to look at DASA, Rossier, or Curtis Sparks.------------------

---------This isn't that bad, you just throw them in the washer when you're done riding.------------

--------------------Wheel Spacers help but it is better to get actual A-arms (Check out JD Performance, a site sponsor), and an axle. It will save you wear and tear on bearings.------------[/b]
hey thanks for the heads up.

i have been reading a little more and have come to the conclustion that i can do the power up kit my self.

i think the extended A arms will be saved for a later project

i only have two questions left

1. the power up kit comes with a diffrent header but i dont see a diffrent exhaust, if i was to buy an after market exhaust to use with the power up header, will i get better or worse resluts do you think ?

and lastly .....

2 what do you think of the moto works sr4 exhaust, i was going to use this with the power up header

The HRC kit has one of the best headers you can get for performance gains. I would recommend HMF slip on pipe to complete the exhaust.
The 2008 LTR's are a whole other animal compared to its previous years. I believe that with just the CB lid off and exhaust plug out, they 08's are putting down around 46 HP
so is the power up kit adding 50 hp or making the bikes total hp 50 ?

I wish it were that cheap to get an ADDED 50 horse. I doubt that it will even get you a total of 50 maybe low to mid 40s.
cam, aftermarket pipe, intake mod.
