so the cylinder is out of round? not consistent in the bore?
no, from what ive read the cylinder tapers so it matters where i put the rings when i measured the gap. thats what i saw in the shop manual.
Maximum cylinder taper should be no larger than 0.05 mm (0.002 in)
You're running a Venom piston and DRG head?????????? Oh sweet irony.............

Also Pgreenlaw is right............
ok thats not to much then i am just really scared to screw this whole thing up with a dumb mistake. oh yea drg and venom, hope its a sweet combo head awsome things about both builders.
The 06s are Tapered at the bottom of the cylinder for ease of ring install correct? If thats true, i think thats what Bigred is talking about. Make sure you measure the rings in the TOP of the cylinder about half inch down from the top.

Cant help ya with jetting.

Break In is all personal preference. This is my method.

1) Initial start up- Let idle and warm for a few minutes, Take it out and run it through first gear through fourth never going past half throttle, Do a lot of quick revs to about 1/4-1/2 and a lot of decel revs....Ex. Put in third and rev to half, pull in clutch and shift down to First or second and dump the clutch. I have been told that in a sense it works the rings both ways. Do this for about ten minutes until decently warm.

Let sit for a few hours and COMPLETELY cool.

2) Second run. Start up, let warm up, then take it out and run through all the gears and lots of revs to half throttle. Do a few decel runs, but no as many as the first initial break in. Run for about 10-15 minutes.

Let Completely cool.

3) Third run. Start, let warm up. Take out and rev it slowly to the top end or almost full throttle. No more "Decel".Ride it good but not like your racing around on a track or at the dunes. Just a cruise but using Most RPMs and all gears(If possible). Run for 15 minutes.

Let completely Cool.

4) Start, Let warm. Ride to almost full potential of the motor/bike for 15 minutes and get HOT. Like 90% of full potential. I would describe this as a short ride at the dunes, hitting stuff that you have to work at, or rev your bike good, but nothing totally wild.

Let completely Cool. Again may take a FEW hours.

5) By this time you should have your jetting close. Start, Warm up. Get on and TOTALLY ride the Hell out of it. Ride it like crazy(While being safe) But ride the complete crap out of it for 15 minutes. You know what this means, no describing.

Cool and After that-I would call it good to go. I always change my oil after break in as another precaution.

Again, just my opinion. Take it or leave it.

I've heard both ways. I don't think you can go wrong with a good slow break in, but i've also heard that riding the hell out of it as soon as you put it back together will cause the rings to seat faster. Its a little more dangerous, and if it works, then it works, but if it doesn't... well, we won't go there.
these ring gaps got me worried, i think i might need to pull it apart and check again to calm me senses. which sucks cuz i just put the motor back in the quad and it was so easy to work on when it was out on the bench...o well ill have to do it while it is installed.

-any info on plug chop ect. for jetting checks. and what should i be around id somone has a similar set up.

-06r, dasa pipe, drg head, +1 ex valves, lid off, 12.25 piston and web 493 cam.

i kno it is a strech to find som1 with similar setup but even an idea would help i have the hrc jetting with a 165 or 168 main before the head piston and web cam ( i had a sparks)
i would just stick with the jetting you have and try it to see how it runs and go from there

I didnt think they were tapered I thought they were scalloped
The new bikes are scalloped. True. The Gen1 bikes are not. Do they still have a taper on the lip?

Yes. The 06+ style cylinders are still tapered on the "unscalloped" portion
If it were me i'd prolly break it in like a lot do car engines... run it... makes sure everything is all good... get it warm and ride it like you stole it. It seats the rings and if anything was going to go wrong, it will regardless. JMHO
