just got the bike new and it has a backfire on the de-acceleration. took it to the shop where i bought it and they said thats normal for the ktm quads to backfire. does anyone have any experience with this?

I am a long time KTM owner. I have a 525EXC dirt bke. It is the exact same motor that is in your quad. It is known as the RFS. Check out KTMTALK.COM It is by fr the best forum around for all things KTM. I have been on that forum for over 6 years. The Backfiring on deceleration is absolutely normal. However, it can be improved and possible even cured. You ned to seal the exhaust joints with high temp silcone. You will need seal where the silencer ataches to the header and wher the header connect to the exhaust ports on the cylinder head. The rest is the fuel mixture screw and some jetting tweaks. Go to KTMTALK.COM and join and then do a search for backfiring in the RFS forum.
FYI when I got my bike running the way I wanted it I still had some poping on decel. When I tuned out the popping I was not really happy with the performance. I was a little rich. I just live the amont I have.
