I didnt realise that pro riders still use the 05 eng and or quad rather than 06 up
It is said better eng
Is this true and if so why
The 06 up eng comes from crf450r and isnt this where the good stuff comes from ???

i thought the 06 and up was better. but that could just be cause thats what i have
I thaught the 05 was better, but thats what I have so.....

Hope someone with some better infotion will chim in1 :)
I've heard from an XC racer that he has seen allot of racers on the 06 and up have tranny problems.
That's the only negative I've heard. The 06 and up seem faster with the higher compression piston.

Just my .02
I have heard Joe Bird for one has 05 eng, better tranny, better head
I would aggree with tranny, not sure about why the 05 head is better ???
stock to stock, 06 is better(faster) but when you start doing big bore/strokers, big valves 04/05 lays down more power! im assuming here but i do believe it is the head design that has a factor here. lot more options as far as port designs. just my opinion here, love to hear more.
i have an 06 and my buddies have and 04 and a 05. stock for stock my 06 felt like a rocket compared to a stock 04. the 04 felt like a 250ex. but after a pipe and such my buddies 05 makes some really good power over stock. i think i big point is the 06 has the fcr carb which gives you great throttle response over 04/05 and the bumped comp. helps alot too. all i can say is i love my 06 and havent had tranny issues. only problem i had with the 06 is starting was bad with stock jetting but with richer jetting (hrc) it starts right up. and for the tranny it was only acting funny when i ran the rotella T garbage in there. went back to honda 80w tannoil or amsoil 10w 40 and it ran like a champ and still is after a good while.
I know a few pros who are running 05 motors in new frames. Must be a power issue.
the 04/05 have bigger valves stock. so when modded to plus ones on ex you are gonna be better than the 06 even if he gets bigger ones. thats why the compression is higher on the 06 . they robbed from valves and gave to compression. high compression piston and valves and 04/05 faster than same 06 and up.

yes joe byrd does run 05 stuff ,lots do !

the 05 spindles are beter for mx also!

The 04/05 have the same size valves as the 06-09, the only thing they changed in the valve department is in 06 they went to ti intakes and went from 5.5 stem dia on the ex to 5.0, they both use the same size though 36mm intakes and 30mm ex. The 06 does have higher compression than the 04/05 the 06-09 has a lot better carn and ignition stock. I have a 07 mx bike and went back to the 05 because once built it has smoother power with more tq and a better tranny. The 04/05 has a better from end also. I like the 05 motor better myself but thats just me.
so the 04/05 head is better however u want to put it stock :_specialED:
i have both year bikes and the engine and tranny on my 05 feels alot better. not taking anything away from the 06 but i just like the 05 motor/tranny better.

No, the 06 head stock actually flows better stock, once ported and milled the 05 head seems to run better for me at least
there have been a few threads some awesome info already, do a quick search im sure you will find the thread.
i like the 04-05 better too. the 06 and up dont seem to hold up as good and i hate the tranny gear ratios
Seems you guys all forgot about the crank issues in the first gen bikes... 2nd gen bikes seem to address that issue a bit better... Plus the R&D has been going on for a few more years with the first gen gen bikes aswell... The 06 & up bikes will catch up in the power area sooner than later... Already seems like it's easier to hit 60 with the 2nd gen bikes now as it is.
looks like honda thinks they have hit a homer with the 06+ engine since they keeping it around so long?
i like my 06 anyways, it gets the job done for what i need.
heah all i have an 05 for motocross racing it has a lot of engine chassis work one off quad i have never riden an 06 or 07 or 08... lol it seems to be the quad to use over here 80% quads on the track are 05`s with big bore kits or even standard ones with exhausts and a bit of jetting.. My Quad was bought new late 07.. And still to this day you can buy a new 05 quad... But i got a Massive shock my local race on sat there was a New KTM sx amazin quad 505 Hole shot master totally standard quad made £15000 quads look pathetic!!!!

I think other companys need to get on the Same track as KTM....
