HP on a 501

I had a 501 built on my 2004. 3 mill crank, 97mm cw cylinder, ported head, stg II hot cam, vennom pipe and a few other bolt ons. My question is I put the bike on a dyno and got some #s and took it out and ran it about 10 hours, all this with a stock carb with a k&n filter no box. I just had a guy on here taper bore a fcr to 42.5 and bought the rat stack with a modded esr intake. How much HP will I pick up with the new intake and carb set up over the stock carb and intake?

my guess would be 2 or 3 but im really not sure.
I would suggest a HC3. I have a 501 similar to yours and it made a big difference. It will especially make a big difference with high compression.

The fcr will make for alot better throttle responce. you won't know what power gains you got till you go back to the dyno.

If I go with a stg III do I need bigger vavles?

No you wont need bigger valves.. A HC III really opens it up on the top end.
do you have any dyno graphs? if not what was your peak hp and torque?
Like he said^^^ no.

If you have a high comp piston say 14:1 you wont notice any loss on the bottom just alot smoother.

I would suggest getting the head ported in the future if you haven't already. That's alot of motor with a stock head.

I believe his head is ported from someone local to him.
sorry it does say ported in the post. Something you might want to look into is tuning the esr. it has alot of potential just needs some work to make the best power.

the one you bought is modded but there is still room for improve ment. A couple guys have played with them and gotten alot more out of them.
not knowing what type intake you are running you might gain up to 4hp.

i went from stock carb, stock intake tube with dasa ring and fuel customs filter and no box.
to
43 fcr, and gained 3.6hp then added the fci and gained 1 hp at peak and 3hp @ 6k

my dasa ringed fci filter, should have been good for 1-1.5 hp over a stock tube and replacement size K&N
rebel.......... anxious to see how that carb works for you. your gonna like it.

the esr will work well. as said before. you can trim length from them and gain power. thats hard to do though..... you dont know when its to far.

my winter plans are to do exactly as hawk did. gonna try a FCI on mine. i like those midrange numbers alot. leaning towards a HC3 with those kind of gains in the middle. it really opens up gear selection when the powerband and curve is that broad.

you'll see what i mean.

hope to see a ride report soon.

Dont have any print outs yet. But I should this week. As far as #S go id rather not say right now do to all the smack talk like thats all youre getting, u should gave had so and so do that. To be honest the numbers are not as high as some think it should be but I can say I have raced alot of people since the build was done and have beat a crap load of bikes with better #s on the dyno. Ive even been called a lieing sack of s--- when asked how many hp its puttin out. Its kind of funny how u can race people 4 or 5 times and beat them every time and when u tell them what motor work u got done they tell u that it should run faster then it does. The way I look at it is if u get beat by a bike length or 4 bike lenths u still get beat. Bottom line is a dyno is great for tuning the bike in but in a heads up race it dont mean a thing. It looks to me like a well tuned 50hp bike will beat a 55hp bike that needs some fine tuning. Thanx everyone for the info.
I think you would be suprised how much you can gain on the top with a STG3 HotCam. Big valves wouldn't be entirely necessary but would definately help on the top with a 501cc motor. I have a 480 with a STG3, +1+1 valves, 14:1 comp and it runs good, lots of usable power, good top end and TONS of midrange.

Good luck maybe I'll see you at Florence next year

Ya that would be awsome to meet up sometime and shoot the sh1t. Just picked the bike up 1 hour ago and talked to my builder about the stg III and he thinks that it would be a great idea at least to stick it on the dyno and see what it does. I am very happy with the carb outcome, I picked up 3.5 hp and 4 foot lbs of torque. My torque is at 38 ft/lb and pulls real hard all the way through. And the throttle response is awsome. Sredrum did a great job on the carb bore. The finish work looked amazing. Cant wait to get it to the dunes to do some riding. Thanx everyone for the info and suggestions. The only thing is my hp is droping off at about 9300 rpm so im hoping the stgIII will get me a little more on the top end. RIDE SAFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm hoping to bust 70hp with my 501,... I should be able to provide dyno graphs real soon...

We'll see,.... fingers-crossed...

Oh, one last comment,... I'm well aware that 70hp is an -over-the-top- claim, but no matter what I'm able to obtain, I'll let ya know what it is as soon as I get it,... my 70 claim is about my experience with the build potential, flow potential, and other factors too.... anyway, stay tuned...

True of the matter is,.. I'll be very happy with over 60hp.....
rebel,

that hp and tq increase from the carb is awesome. i am happy that the carb worked out so well for you. nice doing business with you. wait till you ride it. thats even better.
That's a nice gain with the carb!

Who's your builder?

cameron at radline built it for me. He did everything but the carb.
