since i paid for a dyno tune on this engine, im curious how you guys think it looks in these pics. doesnt it indicate my engine was running pretty rich still? anything bad/good to comment on? it ran amazing up until i took it out for the new engine.

this is a pump gas engine as well.

that doesn't look right... should look like a light brown. my piston that has about 40hrs on it does not even look that way. i think it was still very rich or the rings never really seated correctly and you were burning oil.
lol, im thinking it had to be rich then. it wasnt burning oil at all.
my piston had about 100 hours on it and it didnt look like that when i took it out. that looks wayyy rich
well i guess it had more room for power then. i had it tuned twice.. first one was WAYYY too rich, then we leaned it some and i gained about 1.3 hp/ .8 tq. guy didnt use an a/f meter to tune with, but the bike did run awesome..

i guess i better get the new engine dyno tuned again, by a different shop..
could be the fuel you used also
too much carbon build up on that piston.

if you liked how your bike ran imagine if it was tuned to the max.

what were your jetting specs?
i had a 180 main, needle on the 3rd or 4th clip, and a 48 pilot i think. id have to pull it apart to check.

when i went back for the re-tune, we moved the needle clip 2 positions.. so im sure the main has been too rich from the beginning.

deffinately way to rich for an 07.

my 05 has a 180mj and its rich.

from what ive been told, rule of thumb is the 06-07 bikes run a MJ 10 smaller than the 04-05 bikes. so that puts you around 170.

your bike ran good with the 180 because the air and fuel comming in was matched well. now lean it out and match the air to it and watch that thing rip with your new settup.

who dyno tuned your bike?
john...... you have a great head on that. if i was to guess, just like the guy who jetted it did, i would say a main from 165 t0 170. that head should flow great. better flow...... leaner jetting.

did'nt you pay a fair price to have it done as well???????

when dynoing....... the A/F meter is really what your paying for. anything else is just guessing. which can get it close. but hell... you can do that.

good advice you gave yourself.......... find a new guy to tune it. with A/F meter.

you'll get another 1 or 2 outta that beast. much crisper as well.
i paid 260 freakin dollars for the dyno tune, and $100 in gas.

im not sure who ill take it to this time. nobody around here within 200 miles does a tune for a decent price.
hey man where are you from?
a "tune" normally means AFR so you can tune your jetting to your setup and know what your getting otherwise it is educated guessing and a dyno run.not many people i have ever seen can get jetting perfect (myself included) without the help of an air/fuel meter.(maybe tice is excluded?)
im in olympia.

what shop down in oregon do you run new2honda?
