Running 04 TRx450r Vennom 14:1 stock bore, Vennom Port/Pollish, Kibble White Valves/Springs, Sparks Cam, Sparks 41 FCR, Updated Crank w/ larger bearings, Vennom Header, Rev Box and Intake, Barret race clutch, running U-4-2, (Going back to C12) 21X12x8, 8 paddle extreem's, 13 tooth with stock rear sprocket was fine until Piston and Vennom Head work, but, now with extra power it hits the rev limiter hard and quick really before I start to feel it pull. So I went back to the 14 tooth front and stock rear gear, and re-raced a guy I had been dragging all day with an ESR 480 kit, and went from running dead even with him 10 races to whooping his AS_ by at least 6-8 bike lengths consistant, just a gear change. It feels a little tall in the gearing though, but that slight lug may be keeping it hooked up and pulling. Was considering dropping to the 13T up front and dropping 2 teeth off of the rear for a tweener setup, What has worked for anyone with similiar setups. I don't wan't to hear from people (stoking their monkey about their big bore and stroker NOS setups, just because the power is different and so is the need for gearing... save those for your private time in the John with the lotion) ;)

I've tried every gearing set up out there, and what worked for me was 22 inch UL skat 8 paddles, 40 rear, 13 front. The bizniggle would launch like no other in 2nd, and pull 5th to the top.
i really dont like going smaller with the sprockets if you have a choice. i would rather run 14-40 then 13-36 the larger sprockets are closer to the chain guides and case saver so the chain is less likely to come off and bind agenst the case.

i have run 13-38,39,41 and 14- 39 with 21" bratts i ran 13-39 most of the time but at different dunes i have to change the front to 14 for the race hill.

you might want to try 13-40 or 41 and lanuch in a higher gear its all trail and error. every time you change your power output your gearing will change a little. sand mt. nv. i ran 13-39 but @ dumont 14-39 was better i could have fine tuned it with the rear but one extra tooth in the front was close enough, sence my last trip to dumont i have bumped 8hp so ill be taking a hand full of sprockets with me next trip.

13-41 was the easiest to wheelie at slow speeds so i would have to say it was the most fun
Gearing is such a pain in the Azz. It definately is all trial and error. It changes with every hill depending in the incline/slope and even how much of a run you get before you go up. Even sand condition plays a factor. The drag hill near my house is a prime example. We start near the bottom with no run at the hill, I can pull 14-38 balls out 2nd, then I try 13-38 and can't quite pull 3rd as hard as I need to, then try 13-40, but even that isn't quite balls out 3rd, anyhow, you get the jist. Rider weight plays a factor too, so there is no correct answer anyone can give ya. I'm 200lbs btw, if anyone is wondering why I'm not pulling hard in certain gears that I have mentioned. Plus, this drag hill is pretty steep with no run. Buy a bunch of different sprockets and try em out. I wanted to try 14-40, but my chain won't let me...lol Flat drags I like 14-38, but I hate the gearing for just general duning/riding...Too Tall.
Thanks for your help and time! I will put it to use in 2 weeks
tell santa this year you want a radar gun' you cant go wrong. i use mine all the time, even clocked my bulldog on the run.
the radar gun doesnt always show who wins the race. it shows who is the fastes but the quickest wins.

there fun to have though

G-Lovey nailed it - trial and error - sprockets and paddles. Every hill is different, so there is not a one-size fit all gearing for all hills. And G-Lovey, your hill @ Sand Hollow is one of the strangest hills I've been on. Short, steep, minimal run, extremely fine sand, weird concave top.

the radar gun doesnt always show who wins the race. it shows who is the fastes but the quickest wins.

People sometimes switch from haulers to gliders on MPH only without timing point A to point B.

Good to hear from ya bud. Hey, We are hoping to make it down to the races in Dumont in Nov, I see you guys are planning to be there. I wish we could make the Oct ride, but it's not happening. Anyhow, as it gets closer I'll be talking with ya.
