I put a 06 CRF head on my 06 TRX motor. I was wondering if anyone else has done this.

Did you run into any problems? Do you think all 06+ CRF heads fit on 06+ trxs?

to answer the questions in order of being asked.

1. The only problems i ran into concerned the pipe and carb. The exhaust port exits more to the right...looking down from top...this probably would not be a problem on a TRX but on my frame the "joint" is in the same area as the pipe routing. When i originally built the frame i had the TRX head on so i built a relief in the frame rail. when i swapped head the relief was not deep enough so i had to re cut and make it deeper. I doubt this would be a issue on a TRX since I'm nowhere near the "original" frame rail.
The carburetor intake is angled differently. it has a slight down angle to it. It requires a little persuasion to get the boot on all the way. Once it was on it kinda reformed it self and now goes on and of pretty easy.

2. the 02-06 CRF Heads are interchangable but the 06 has a larger Ex valve.

3. As already mentioned the intake and exhaust ports are slightly different as they enter/exit the head. Also The CRF has a larger Ex valve. The CRF head does not have the thermostat.

4. The "gain" or original reason for the swap was to eliminate the thermostat. I did not need it or the fan that comes on the TRX. During the build i discovered the thermostat intake would Hit the radiator and the hoses would not go on. I could have made a bracket to push the radiator forward but then The shroud would not line up. Also i would have to deal with the other outlet. By doing this swap i eliminated all those issues. The Added benefit was the port layout that can not be duplicated by simple porting.

The CRF head moves the powerband to more mid to top compared to the TRX low to mid style.

Ive never thought of doing this. But i was under the impression that the 06 and up motors were made after the crf 450x. Please correct me if im wrong.

Everytime i see that trike it makes me want to resurect my 250r

I'm not sure about the CRF X motor. I used a CRF R head and it was internally differant then the TRX.
you are a bad man, I'll tell you that

Us guys that race dezert run the R head on the 05-07 X's...... moves the powerband up and has bigger valves to make more power!!!! The 08 X's have a pretty good head!!!!
that is one sweet trike, you did a really nice job on it
