I am new to clutches this is going to sound dumb but what will happen if I put new clutch plates in with out filing the basket there are some groves in the basket .will it just eat the plates and I wasted my money or will it last for a while till I can afford a new basket ?

I’m not really sure, but if you have grooves I would definitely file it down there will be way smoother shifting overall.
