As most of you know I do mostly trail riding but it’s fast hard packed crush stone with lots of s turns and cornering. I just wanna make sure I don’t have too much camber.
As most of you know I do mostly trail riding but it’s fast hard packed crush stone with lots of s turns and cornering. I just wanna make sure I don’t have too much camber.I need to adjust my camber on the right wheel (sitting on the quad) basically it’s sitting plum (no camber at all) but the other wheel has about an inch of camber ,I use a framing square to measure it (gap from top of wheel to square), my question is- is that called negative camber or positive? And is one inch in (gap at top of wheel to framing square) too much camber? Would like to know how much camber you guys are running on your quads? Thanks
It is odd, when I bought it the front end was finicky and I knew it was due to camber and toe being off, So I decided to take off the ball joints and the spindles and thread them back in evenly. Then I’m going to adjust camber and toe. So with the angle gauge (I have a small one from Home Depot) where do I put it on the tire? There’s not really a 90 degree surface anywhere on the tire for the gauge to fit lol, And 1” is way too big, I was definitely feeling it when turning. So 3 degrees on camber (negative, thanks) and 1/4” toe in. Thanks for the reply. That’s very odd that you have such a difference in exposed threads. It shouldn’t be off that much. Is your frame bent or anything?
Best way to set camber is with an angle gauge. You should start at about 3° and see how you like it. Hard to say what the gap would be at the top of your tire since it can vary, gap will be much bigger on a 23” tire versus a 20” tire. And it’s Negative camber when the top of the tire is in. But 1” seems like too much to me, especially if you are doing mainly trail riding.
Ahh ok I gotcha, im actually waiting for break pads I ordered online, you don’t wanna know what my local shop quoted me. So I ordered fronts and rear. But once they’re in I’ll set up toe & camber as you suggested, thanks 👍Yeah, you can start with 3° and see how you like it. MX guys will probably want a little more, and if you are doing trails you may want a little less. you can use a ruler or some type of straight edge to span the wheel and then put the angle finder on there.
