hey guys I'm having trouble figuring this out. when my 450s warmed up and your riding it, when you let off and give it a little throttle it bogs a bit then goes. especially when doing wheelies. I have a lexx slip on and a stage 2 hotcam. main jet is a 165 and pilot is 55. idle air fuel mixture is 2 and 1/2 turns out. (idles perfect) bike is a 04 trx450r.

forgot to add this. it runs good on acceleration but when you let of it pops a lot. which is a sign of running lean but I richened it up from a 165 to a 175 then 180 then 190 and it bogged a lot. spark plug is like a light brown

Is your airbox lid on or off?

Well i think you’re lean on the main jet. 04/05’s are usually around 180 with your mods, & Take the lid off of the airbox, you’re choking the quad , especially with your mods. You’ll be surprised how much better it runs without the lid. Do you know the leak jet size?

Try a 80-182 main, 52 pilot, (if itidle perfect maybe leave the 55).
55’0 leak. Put needle clip on 4th position down from top (if not stock). Go in a half turn on pilot screw (2 turns out) And TAKE OFF your lid. See where that gets you.
04/05’s are a little bit easier to tune versus 06+.
I forget what was in my 05, ive owned an 06 for some time now. Different carb and jets.
But im willing to bet your bog is from the lid being on. And your popping on decel is from a bit to lean main.

Its kinda like the pilot it, if you move it up it allows more fuel flo, if you lower it leans it out (i think). Its another way to tune more accurately. and on the 04/05 you cant remove the leak jet. I apologize. I think its an acc pump bypass jet, and it controls how much fuel leaks back into the bowl from fuel squirt, or something of that matter lol. Im not familiar with 04/05 jetting. Its been a while.Theres a really good write up on jetting.
Type in jetting help or questions in the search bar, look for 450RRR post and educate yourself.
it has alot of info.

yeah I left the 55 pilot I went from 165 main to 170 to 175 to 180 and 185 it still bogs. right when your throttle gets a little bit stiffer it bogs. any more throttle it runs good any less throttle it runs good but right in that spot it bogs terribly.

Stock pilot jet (48), needle middle clip, 180 main, 2.5 - 2.75 turns out will get it right. I've ran this on multiple 04-05 machines using a full exhaust and no airbox lid with great success. There's no need for that big of a pilot jet. Maybe a 50 tops, but I have personally never needed one.

Verify the valves are adjusted properly and the decompression set around 90 psi. Also make sure the boot for the carburetor to the head is tight and has no cracks. Same with the intake tube going to the airbox.

Also make sure the spark plug is new and the plug wire going into the boot isn't corroded. Seen that make for a hesitation before.

Wouldn't hurt to also run a leakdown test to verify the valves aren't damaged or burnt.

man this is getting annoying. it runs good with throttle and idles good but you let off and it pops so bad. when your just putting around it's kind of boggy too. not too bad but if you pay attention it's noticeable. pilot jet is at 55 and main is 165 I've tried 160 through 200. 180+ makes it bog terribly. 170 175 and 180 dont pop all that much but they bog right when the accelerator pump kicks in. at a 165 it doesn't bog enough to effect it too much but it's still their. is their something else in the carb I can adjust. the valves are good the spark plug and coil are good. thanks

Did you check for air leaks, carb boots, and exhaust? I dont think thats the bog issue but could be the popping on decel, check if exhaust has a leak at the head. And if you did everything that was previously mentioned then not sure. Did you check accl. Pump?
