i agree with all three above post but...

with what you have the stock cdi is all you nned

at least in the 04/05 models the stock cdi made more power then the others mentioned unless equiped with custom curves.

once you have the parts to pull all the way to the rev limit then get either of the 2 mentioned above and find a shop to install a good custom curve. other then the dyna and vortex i would stay away from aftermarket cdi's

So on an 05 you say dyna/vortex are the chit

Agreed with above. Unless you really get deep into your engine and pockets going for a high hp build, a aftermarket ignition simply isnt worth the money imo. But if you have it to spend go ahead, but for the average recreational rider with cam, pipe, intake etc, the benefit doesnt really outweigh the cost. But again, personal opinion.

with a custom curve and a head/cam/intake/exhaust combo that the power is still on the increase at 9800 rpm yes they will help. i never tryed the vortex but the dyna lost power on my build on all 3 curves the stock curve was the same as the stock cdi.
with a ported head, +1 ex valves, esr exhaust, hrc cam, dasa intake, 43mm fcr, 13-1 stock bore or 480 i didnt need any extended rpms. the cam, head, exhaust, started to fall off before the stock rev limit.
now with a RE top end head with +1 all around, dasa pipe, and different big web cams im making peak power at 9800 so an extended rev limit and a custom curve will help my build.

the green wire mod will extend the RPM to 10850rpms......and alter the timing curve to a more performance oriented curve for mid/upper rpm performance......

there are very FEW machines that need more rpm than 10,850rpm.... so like mentioned above.... just stick with the green wire mod.....

some nitrous users like to play with the timing and use a custom curve plus programmable ICM to incorporate with their nitrous system.....I find it too much hassle for too little gain......

jmho.....g
