Advice on fuel to use for 450r

408 Views 4 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  hoser
I'm currently running a ported head with a stage 3 cam. Stock bore and stroke. My buddy has a similar build. And we do alot of track racing. Not quite yet committed to going full race fuel yet. I was thinking mixing 20 to 25 percent race fuel with 93 pump gas for a little extra power. Any recommendations? I have a few buddies at the track who run MR12 or M1 methanol. But what would be best for my application? Vp sells so many fuels I'm not sure where to start. We track race and creek race mainly. Any advice will be appreciated.

Just do a 50/50 Mix with VP110. As for any fuel.... Make sure if your bike sits for months or weeks at a time go out once a week and start it up (even just a minute and it will be good) mainly to Keep the Fuel aggitated and dulute with new fuel everytime you ride.
If you are running stock compression I wouldn’t run any race gas. It’s completely false that raising your octane, when you don’t, need it, will give you more power. And the opposite is actually true. If you don’t need the octane, it can actually give you less power. Unless you are running high compression, there is no need to run high octane and you are literally just throwing money away. Now if you are running oxygenated fuels you can gain some power, but on such a mild motor like yours, it is not worth it. You’d be better off saving the money you would be spending on fuel and putting it towards other mods.

With that being said. I am running stock compression. Just to clarify. I read online that stock compression on these 450s is 12 to 1. Is this correct?
Yes, stock compression ratio is 12:1.
