450R over YFZ450

We had a Utah ATV association Rodeo. One of the events was the drag race. It was pretty short, just into second gear before it ended. The final 3 were me on my 450R, a modded DS, and Raptor. There was a guy on a YFZ450, cam mod, pipe, no lid, he didn't make it to the finals. I won, and he wanted a few grudge matches. I beat him 3 for 3, switching sides and everything. I outweigh hm by at least 30 lbs.
I just love the pic, sorry its blury, its from a video.

We went to the dry lake beds and did some GPS top speed tests.
I have 14/38 and ran 74.5mph
YFZ stock gearing 78
250R one tooth smaller in front 68mph
Banshee, not sure on gearing 71mph

so you changed your rear sprocket?
My bad, I have a 14/39 (2.786 ratio)
stock is 14/38 (2.714 ratio)
Yes, I changed the rear sprocket.

I was curious becasue your top speed is off...It should be 78 mph stock...the TRX is supposed to have a faster top speed..thats what all the dyno's show.
Stock to stock it does, i drag raced one and i passed um on top end we did a long A$$ drag tho, down a road to see the hole diff, to bad we only raced once that day, i got off on a bad start but once i was rolling i stayed back and then reeled um in
Mine topped out at 78 mph even with the HRC kit. We recorded it from an S2000, Hondas 2 best sport vehicles.

Lude, You also have to take into consideration body weight. Body weight will slow it down some plus the extra body weight can cause more drag in the sand. Also tire inflation could be a factor also.

Ya, and running a helmet visor can increase lift and drag on the whole picture too

I heated mine up and bent it down like the leading edge of an airfoil to balance lift action so the bike has less rolling resistance ... Theoretically, if I keep my arms tucked and my nostrils parallel to the ground, I should literally "fly" at about 155 MPH ... LOL

yeah you guys are right........I found that if I leave my shoes off, mine goes alot faster!.....HAHA

Well, well, well aren't you guys a bunch of smart arses this morning :D
Desert...
I rode it hard, never lettign it stay in one RPM range for more than a few seconds. I did this for about 30 mins, then let her cool. Then about 45 mins, then let her cool. For about the first tank. NEVER letting it idle for more than 10 seconds.

You need to remember elevation as well. We are runnign that speed at 5000 feet, not alot of oxegyn up here.
Dave, the YFZ guy, is from here, he has it set up right. He beats most YFZ's at Sand Mountain.
Your right, I have mine running like its suposed to, many do not. Thats how I can clean up on many of the YFZ's at our dunes. Daves is running right too.
In that short of a drag, launch, traction, and shifting are SO IMPORTANT. I got faster everytime.

I was also trying 2nd gear starts and didn't seem to get out of the hole as quick. I also think your stock tires are better than mine which hooked up quicker. Win or lose it was a blast of a weekend.

I broke mine in about the same way, i didnt baby mine.
Welcome to the site hauler!
Hopefully in about a month I can give everyone some real 450r vs yfz450 times. The atv club I'm a member of are having some side by side mud drags this year(next year we're going to just dirt) and purchased a $4000 timing light system with tree. Our track is gonna be 300ft. We always were single lane drags with the fastest time winning now we're going to double elimination side by side. I hope some yfz's show up. Around here there is already more r's than yfz's as a matter of fact I only know of 1 and don't know if he still has it.
