Just installed K&N filter / outerwears cover / dynojet kit. With airbox lid removed instructions said to plug in air jet, and use 170 main with stock exhaust. I bought a 2 inch endcap on ebay and tried it yesterday. seems fine until i get in high rpm's in any gear and it flattens out or bogs down. Just wondering if i am running too lean for the endcap?

You are defiantely running lean! I'd put a 180 to a 185 main with the needle on the 4th clip.

The thing about a 4 stroke is that it will run with just about any jetting setting. May not run good or you may not be getting full performance from it but it will run. I would suggest raising the needle (dropping the clip one) and bumping the main jet to a 185 possibly a 190. I was running a 180 main with the stock needle setting with the air box lid removed and the HRC end cap and was very pleased at about 1250 ft in elevation. Most would obviously prefer a little rich than a little lean.

You can get it close and more times than not with out a Dyno you won’t get it spot on but you can get it close.

Good luck.

Thanks for all the tips, i have went up on my main to 185, top end seems alot better, one thing i did notice yesterday. in nuetral i can slowly start to give throttle and between 1/4 and 1/2 throttle i can hear popping noise in the exhaust. its not real loud, but noticeable. But i can take it out and run the piss out of it and seems to run fine. so i dont know. any suggestions???????????

i had the same problem with mine, i just put a hrc end cap on and a 2" hole in the lid. i also raised the needle and jetted it with a 180. when i rode it i thought it was falling on it's face very early in the rmp range, but the more i rode it, i think it is just able to pull to the rev limiter faster. the sound is so different now i think it sounds like it's not spinning as many r's as it did w/the stock end cap so when it does hit the limiter it sounds like it's hardly spinning. it used to feel like i was driving an indy car now it feels like a realy fast tractor. i took off the the air box lid and it felt better, but i think maybe it just sounded better, like it was getting some good rpm again. i used to be able to leave it in gear alot longer now i feel like i'm short shifting the hell out of it, but if i don't it hits the limiter. it's realy wierd, but i'll get used to it (or go back to stock when it sounded cool). anyway, i think this is your problem too, and you should ride it some more to see if it is able to hit the rev limiter, once you do that you might see that it is pulling threw it's full rpm range. also, raise your needle i'm sure it will help.

I personally got the K&N jet kit, K&N filter kit with outerwears, and opended up the airbox. From alot of the post that i have read alot of people are going with either the HRC jets and needle or going with Sparks jet kits.

Did you guys notice this thread was started in Aug 2004. I basicly asked the same question last yesterday Titled K/N & jetting i wondered how he got so many veiws anyway I see your talking about 180 to 190 jets do the companys all # their jets different because the dynojet kit starts with 120 and goes to 140 . Im working on a 07 TRX450R with a yosh header & muffler and im installing a K/N filter should I open the lid up or not and what do you think about the jet #s being so low.

I actually asked this question last week when everyone was helping me with jetting. Yes there's a difference. dynojets are meassured by diameter and I think kehein is measured by flow. Here's a conversion chart:
