Could you explain the weird noise and when it occurs? Is the Exhaust valve on the right side of the head adjusted correctly? (On a 04 I believe it is valve clearance+ decompressor clearance= .017; Double check this with a manual) The decompressor basically uses centrifugal force to close the exhaust valve once the engine is turning so I am unsure what could cause the sound. I also think the compression on a 04 kicker is 150 psi so unless you are a Strong Man Competitor I don't think it can be removed.
