2006 trx450er idle issue

I have a 2006 trx450er here in San Bernardino California (socal). I got it with a white brothers full exhaust not sure what size jetting, has regular foam air filter with lid and everything. It was running perfectly fine no bogging issues or anything. One day my muffler broke along with my starter clutch. I bought a stock 2007 trx450er full exhaust , installed it and then bump started my quad (starter button was broken) i only rode it for about 2-5 mins with the stock exhaust and it ran perfectly and idled perfectly. I then let the quad sit for a few weeks as it was broken and I was waiting for shop to rebuild the top end and starter clutch. Now that they rebuilt it and it starts perfectly, I’ve came across a new problem. Everything is perfectly fine up until about 30 minutes into riding it, after it’s been on for about 30 minutes it doesn’t idle at all. It starts up first try (if I slightly tap the gas) but just doesn’t idle on its own. It does run better with the choke on. The header glows crazy red. When I first start it up while it’s cold everything is good but 30 minutes in, it’s a disaster. Like I said this was my first time riding it with the full stock exhaust because it use to have a full aftermarket exhaust. Now that I’m on the stock one and it doesn’t want to idle after 30 mins, muffler glows red, only runs on choke after 30 mins, do I have to make carb changes now that I made the switch back to full stock exhaust? Never messed with jetting but if anyone has tips for me I’d appreciate it. My instagram is @250rick if I don’t respond soon enough

You will have to change the jetting to run the stock exhaust look up stock jetting on the search bar and that should get you a few results, may I ask why you chose to go back to a stock exhaust?

Thanks for commenting, I had to change the exhaust because on the white brothers muffler the little rivets on the muffler broke and it literally blew up like the muffler wasn’t connected to the pipe piece anymore and the insides of the muffler just fell out. At that point the white brothers muffler was trash so I threw it away. I was stuck with just the header and no muffler so I found a full stock setup from an 07 on offerup and just swapped them out but didn’t make any other changes

So based on what you just said I would say you need to rejet the quad for the stock pipe and you will be good to go.

Rejet it how? I’ve never messed with jetting nor do I really understand it too much. Do I need less fuel more air?

When you rejet you have to take of the carb and take of the bowl and then there you will see the jets you need to take out, there should be plenty of videos on YouTube and then a bunch of good info on here on what jets you should use.

If you’re not sure how to jet an FCR carburetor I suggest you bring it to a shop and have them do it it’ll probably be fairly cheap. Or someone who knows how (friend, family, neighbor etc.) In the meantime watch a bunch of videos on how to replace jets in an FCR carb in how to clean an FC R carb. You’ll see how easy it is.

Hey so turns out my fuel mixture screw was missing but I Think it’s because the shop had it unscrewed too much, when I got a new screw I put it at 2.5 turns and the mechanic said he had it at 3. So far it’s been good no problems anymore. I also changed the foam air filter and put a k&n filter

Thats good, Did you have the stock screw in there or one of the aftermarket ones with the knob to turn with your fingers? Because those are infamous for falling out.

Yea I went with the aftermarket one and I think I should buy an extra one and keep it under my seat at all times

I highly suggest you get the R&D flex jet. It will never fall out, and it’s much easier to access versus the straight aftermarket ones. See how it comes out then turns up to connect to the left side of carb? Wicked easy to get to.
