05 TRX450R HRC Kit or just a few mods?

I recently (1yr ago) purchased a black 05 TRX Kicker with what looks like to me a few of the HRC mods already don to it. I know that it doesn't have the complete kit becasue the spark arestor is pulled out of the stock exhaust and it looks like the stock end cap was put back on with out the end cap mod. The lid is gone on the air box and it has a chrome sleeve slipped into the rubber intake with an aftermarket filter(looks like k&N but isn't) and the white plastic snorkel that goes into the air box looks to be stock as well. These are the only two visible engine mods I can see. My first question is how can I tell if the stock carb has been rejetted for the un-corked stcok exhaust and un-lidded air box mod. What jet would be in the stock kicker? Should I buy an air box lid and cut the lid out or leave it removed? Also, what does this HRC Spark Arested end cap look like and where can I buy one? I have seen a few different ones on ebay but they all look different and have negative things to say about the others selling similar items on ebay. Is there a header pipe replacement for the 05 that will improve performance? Is the HRC jet kit better than Sparks or Dyno Jet? And last but not least, who has the best filter for mostly dune riding, K&N or a Sparks Foamy? Thanks for everyones help in advance. L8ER!!

Leave the air box lid off. Pull the main jet and look to see what number is on the side. If it is a Keihnin jet, which is for the stock carb and from the HRC jet kit, it will have a 180 or 185 on it(can't remember what comes with the kit). You should be around the 180 with the lid off. I would stick with Keihnin jets and stay away from Dynojets, it gets confusing with the different sizes between the stock needles and Dynojet. Checking for the HRC needle will be a little tougher. There is a thread on here about "uncorking the R on a budget" which tells you how the change the needle as well as most of the other 04-05 HRC mods.

No HRC head pipe for the 04-05's. Best to get a whole exhaust or a slip-on if you're on a budget. I have a couple of DRD slip-ons with very low hours I could let go of cheap if you're interested.

The K&N is ok but an outerwear is probably a must. A good oiled foam like Sparks or UNI is probably best at protection though.
Thanks man for the reply and advice. Sounds like I need to either just buy the HRC jet and needle or go with the sparks kit and maybe order a filter. I guess I have to pull the tank and all that to remove the carb huh? On my banshee I would just loosen the boot and turn them sideways and remove the bowl and swap jets, doesn't look to be that easy with this one. How much on the used DRD slip ons? I read thread on here you are referring to and that's what got me started and curious about what all was done to my bike before I bought it. You don't happen to know where I can but the HRC or equal end cap for my exhaust do you. There are several on ebay and they all claim they are better than the other seller. I did see a Phoenix one on there that is spark arrested that looked alot like the HRC one.

I'd take $80 shipped for one of the DRD's. The HRC endcap should be around $30 (at least it was when I was considering it). Check with one of the site sponsors Woodward, he might have one and will have any of the jets or needle that you need.

You can change the main jet by just turning the carb and removing the 17mm drain bolt to get to the main. The stock jets are 6mm. I think the Dynojets are 8mm. You can leave the tank and plastics on for this. If you want to change the pilot jet, then you will have to remove the whole bowl. To change the needle, you have to remove the tank, heat shield and rubber dust cover to get to the top of the carb. Then remove the carb top and the two screws down inside the carb to get to the needle.

Do you have any pics of the DRD silencer? I just purchased a HRC Power-up Kit last night on craigslist for $175 so I will have the end cap for now but I am interested in the silencer aswell. I was hoping I could install the HRC main jet and needle without removing the tank but after looking at it last night I see why I have to remove the gas tank. I guess I could tun the carb sideways like youmentioned to remove the main jet and see whats in it since I already have a uncorked stock pipe and open are box with a filter it shouldn't be stock jets. I have a little problem with removing the gas tank though, the left side front fender screw is turning the threaded part that is molded into the tank. Thanks for the info on the jetting, I appreciate it. Looks like I get to install a cam this week too. Is that hard or is that something I can do myself? I am pretty mechanically inclined and have rebuilt a couple top ends and carbs on Banshee's and an 01 Raptor tranny. Do you or anybody else recognize this filter kit? See attached pics? The filter has a curved base and the chome plastic collar.

I don't know what that filter is. Maybe someone else can recognize it. Here's pics of the DRD slip on;

Changing the cam is not that difficult. Check on here, there is a good step by step to follow. You may want to get a valve shim kit too. That way you don't have search around for the right size shims.

SWEET!!! That silencer looks like it is in great shape. I am definately interested. I am going to get this HRC kit installed first and I will buy this from you when I GETRDONE. Did you say you had more than one? Thanks for the advise on the cam swap info.
This slip on only has about 10 hours on it. I had it on a quad that I put a full exhaust on, then the quad was stolen last year. I have since bought another quad that has the same DRD one on it now. I just bought a Rossier full exhaust and will be putting that on it soon. So, ya I have another DRD slip on too. I think it has more hours on it, but its still in excellent shape.

Let me know when you're ready, I might put one of them up for sale in the for sale section in a week or two.

Do you still have this silencer?
