Well after i got my quad I became more power hungry, I decided it was time for the HRC kit. I brought it to the dealer and had them install it so I was still under warranty.
First Impressions: After I started it up it sounded mean, it was a not to loud but had a nice tone. I revved it up and it sounded good, so I let it warm up. I started out down my street and the first thing I noticed is that when at a low RPM the engine does not make the lugging sound, kewl! so I gave it a little gas and it felt the same as before, I took it up to about 5000 RPM's and stopped. turned around and pinned it, went up thought 3rd gear. WOW was that cool, when u floor it it just goes, It can pull a wheelie in third now. I was hitting the rev limiter like crazy. post-696-1105671348.gif
Testing in the desert: out in the desert it just used to break the tires loose, not is slides in turns and breaks the tires loose in 5th! I can now pull up to the rev limiter in 5th really quick.

Conclusion: so is it worth the 250$, heck yeah! but for the trail rider I would stick to a more bottom end cam, or go with a high comp piston. I really like what this has done to my bike! The bottom end is thew same, with a good hit in the mid range. and on top it just keeps pulling!! I think it is the best bang for the buck, a must have for anyone who like the flow of adrenaline!

BTW luke is this ok do I need to add anything else? ermm.gif

The HRC has been getting some bashing latley. Its good to here that someone is happy with theirs like I'm happy with mine. Once you get the pipe, man it just goes.

I spank other quads up the hills at Dumont with my cam.

In tight turns and trail riding, it doesnt show its true colors until you pin the throttle.

I'll put it in the other forum .. it is A-OK thumbsup.gif

I think that the people that are disappointed were simply expecting too much. They think that a few extra horse should feel like you just hit a NOS button. This is a real strong mod, one that must be done to open up the R. Whether you get the HRC, Hot Cams, or any other cam .. you need something to let that R produce more power. I personally LOVE my HRC .. I ride trails but it is still GREAT for me.

Can I just buy certain parts from my dealer and have them instal them for me? like the airbox and cams?? Also i will be using some sort of full system exhaust, and the jetting that comes with it. So I will proly only need the air box lid and those parts + the cams... can I do this? or do I have to buy the WHOLE kit?

If you add at least a slip-on you will have a poop eatin grin from ear to ear. The whole HRC Kit is the best deal around for your money.

I left mine stock for the break in. Then I did the HRC and the Pulse Charger at the same time. Alls I can say is WOW. It is a different machine.

Did you have to change the HRC kit jetting once you installed the PC, I am saving for my PC as we speek and I was just curious as to what/if I need to rejet it differently from the HRC jets??

Elevation?

You wil have to lean it out a bit. I went from a 182 with my Dr. D to a 175.

the HRC kit is the best bang for the buck. i love the top end power of this cam! i also have a HMF BB exhaust and run a 180 main jet with a 50 pilot.
now all the other quads like z-400's and 400ex's feels like gutless terds.

I have a quick question is it really hard to put in a hrc kit? I think i can really do it and my dad it pretty good with cars he has 2 corvettes right now and i think he could help me if i get something wrong. So if u had put your own in tell me how hard it was to put in?

buy a manual from rocky mountain atv and see what you are up against..if you see how to do it with your dad and don't feel comfortable doing it then have the stealership do it.

Is their a dyno for stock vs. a full HRC only kit .....I would like to see the gains... and not just get the seat of my pants dyno or the " I raced a piped banshee" report ....

the local dealer ship said the HRC kit made 61hp ???
Trx480Ryan
Did they add noss to that HRC kit... if thats true it would be adding 26hp with that kit alone..... it will add i would say 5-10 hp at most... add a pipe and ur looking at only 43-45 hp..... in my opinion

Ry
doncap411
Did a salesmen or a tech tell you about the 62 hp? 11doh1.gif
Trx450always
prob a salesman, Also I took it out to the dunes. and it performes flawlessly. very good power increase. next is a pipe.
doncap411
Cool, nice to hear, I love the HRC kit in my machine...

Try 41 or 42.
doncap411
I would say 43-45 is pretty accurate for HRC, a full exhaust and proper jetting.

it was a parts guy....I was looking at what he was pointing out a little closer....

it said somtinhg to the effect of..." for a refernce lokk in the honda parts manual ( 61HP-100) " he was looking at part number not a HP number LOL

remind me not to order parts from that guy!!!!
spoRtRax450R
its like a 5hp gain, id say 42-44 hp with just the kit
TRX450rlude
I pulled 43hp with hotcam stage 2 and a DR. slip on...that was on the Dyno at little sahara and alot of people on here say that dyno reads low.... trink21.gif
Bad Habit
HRC kit only (no other mods) put down 40.6hp on NMotion's dyno.
Trx450always
how bout with a full exhaust?
spoRtRax450R
all dynos are different. lets just say low to mid 40s compared to high 30s- 40 stock
Hondo450R
I got my cam in but haven't tested it yet.now i really can't wait
Hondo450R
I finally took it out last weekend and it made a huge difference from the stock setup definitely worth the money.

A buddy of mine works for the local honda shops parts depo, and he hooked me up with the 05 HRC kit for i think $172 out the door. I bought the hotcams kit and went home and put it in myself. Thats thing screams now...now i just need a pipe...

The whole kit with header, cam, etc. They run around $300 give or take a little depending on where you buy it.

I'm glad to see the posts have all been 04-05 bikes so as to keep things apples to apples!
