Im no freestyle expert but the type of jump you hit and the lip that is on it has alot to do with what you are talking about. jumps with good lips will keep the bike right under your a$$ making it easy to take feet off and ever easier to get them back on. jumps with little lip or none at all seem to send your body higher then the quad and it seems like its falling out from under you cuasing the bike to get farther from your feet the longer you are in the air. this is just from personal experince but try it out and see if you get what im sayin.

First, always make sure you have enough time to do whatever trick you plan on doing! Try practicing with on foot to get the feel of the quad as well as the jump. Never try to do a difficult trick first. Always try a small one so you know what’s going to happen from take off to landing. After getting the jump down with one foot then move on to two feet and advance from there. And never try any jump with a trick until you have least hit the jump once to see the characteristics of the jump! :D

Key is to jump from the quad while you're descending upwards still. Gives full time to begin pulling yourself back in directly after the apex of the launch and a full landing on the downslope.
