Text means NOTHING without charts/graphsStealth Charger -vs- Yoshi "open" Dyno:

My goal is to post honest, repeatable test results, and educate at the same time.

ATV riders are losing riding areas due to un-necessary exhaust NOISE... I hope to inform EVERYONE in the ATV community that we can have the “same” (only the dyno could tell) performance without disturbing folks.

I already did www.450rhq.com. I asked mixxer and lukster, they both said it was ok. I fiqure that since you did the testing for mixxer you would have no problem with it. I also made it very clear as who did the test and that all credit was given to you.

3500 rpm, two tests with a buffer reset on SPL between tests: dBA

Yoshimura open = (1) 101.2 dBA (2) 100.9 dBA

Yoshimura TEC = (1) 95.2 dBA (2) 95.3 dBA

Pulse Charger = (1) 105.0 dBA (2) 104.6 dBA

Stealth Charger = (1) 103.1 dBA (2) 102.7 dBA

OK, so if they are doing sound tests, and I have to pass a 102 db limit, I am not going to be able to do it? Even though it isn't perceived to be as loud, it is actually louder? Chances are if it doesn't appear to be loud they will not test, but what if they do, am I going to be over the limit, or is this a different test?

side by side, as heard by human ears, everyone would swear the stealth charger is quieter...

there is no way that they could listen to another exhaust and let it pass and then not say the stealth should pass too. i would say they wouldn't even test the stealth charger. only the meters say it's louder, the human hearing doesn't interpret it the same way, to us with our ears as the test instrument, it is quieter

That may hold true if your sitting right next to another quad,,,but if your alone/or the first one in line your screwed!! BTW, ears dont pass quads,,,,Meters do!

LOL!! That sounds all well and good but Wisconsin DNR know only two brands,,,,stock and that shiny thing! LOL!! they.

plus theres a riding park (The Cliffs) close by me that test any and ALL aftermarket pipes. the park has had so much flak from the locals that they are forced to go the distance with sound measures.

Its only a matter of time before most all parks and riding areas will have to be this way due to eco nazi's.

Here is a group of the *best* runs from each pipe on 4 June 05...

IMO... the Stealth Charger hangs with the louder pipes!

Here's TAW's Stealth Charger dyno's....

K&N air filter, Modded Outerwears Lid, stock airboot
Stock Carb 140 DJ main jet; 25 Pilot Jet , ALBA NEEDLE 2ND CLIP
Mild "clean-up" port job
12:1 compression with DRZ base gasket
Intake HotCam, stock exhaust cam

I REALLY need to un-cork the intake... get a 400EX air boot and loose the "small" air filter... and install an exhaust HotCam!
mixxer
awesome info, and many thanks for the time and $$ to test and share it.

i like being able to have independant tests done on the VCP pipes to eliminate the fact of my testing being done under special mods or with special conditions to enhance the "advertised outputs"..

i also invite comparison testing of the PC in all its configurations. it is relevant for all manufacturers to consider doing the same since you can see by the torque graphs that peak numbers don't tell the whole story. many (all) manufacturers will tell you how close the max figures are from their loud to silent versions but NONE of them will put up a comparison graph (TQ and HP) showing what happens to the whole power curve........ and with good reason

thanks again to rstaw for all the time and shared data!
rstaw2_Zs
Sorry mixxer, but I was told the graffs and charts take up too much server sspace, so management removed all the data.

Quote from mod when I reported the data was gone:

"... I am not 100% positive......but I know the Admin team went thru and deleted a whole lot of OLD items..mostly pics/sound vids (due to the amount of memory they consume)...because the Org was experiencing some difficulty and had exceeded its allowable space on the web....... they were probably removed at that point..... I am not sure if they can be recovered....sorry....."

My reply to the mod:

"WOW!

I guess you didn't know that that I am an Avionics/Sound Engineer with *********************?

That report took weeks of hard work; I gathered real scientific data. If you noticed, no pipe manufacturer disputed one detail? Not ONE 'lil peep from them because the data is accurate.

The SPL meter costs $7.5K, the software costs $3K/year per user... the dyno time was $60/hour (out of my pocket).

I am more than a little bummed now!

Please try to recover the spectrum analysis and dyno charts.... I set the "independant tester" base-line for the whole site; and intended to continue testing new products comparing them to the established base-line.

Please e-mail me the charts/grafts to poddude@yahoo.com if you can recover them.

Thank you,

Scott "
