Anyone have any experience with this? I been surfing the web, and even called Clark County Sherrif's office trying to find out what the laws are. When I called the Sherrifs office, I was transfered to a voice mail. I live on a couple acres out in the country. Been here since Sept. First weekend I was here, I was riding my quad around my yard and my next door neighbor was standing at the fence watching me. I stopped to say hi and introduce myself. He wasnt too friendly. Instead, he asked...."Is this going to be an everyday thing?"...... LOL At the time I was still running a stock pipe. Since then I replaced it with a Two Bros Slip-on pipe. Way louder. This morning I was doing laps (after 10am) and he came out and started up his POS Ford (smokes a lot) He let it run until I was done, then he shut it off. I do want to be a good neighbor, but at the same time the reason I bought this place was so I can ride on my own property. I was looking at the Quiet core for my pipe and it will drop it 4-6 db. I dont know how many db my pipe puts out, but it is loud. So, I am wondering if anyone else has been in this situation? I dont know what the db limits are in rural areas.

the venom pipes are the quietest i have used, no joke
but if you are a big spender just buy more surrounding acreage if you can lol
sad this happens to almost every riding land owner i know in illinois, were all sensitive to the neighbs but
it seems like they just wait for you to ride...
on the big farm we have 80 acres, I have lived there so long my neighbs would never say anything and they like me, but i know they hate the quad and any louder bike quad noises... lol most of them are rural people who have utilities and farm equip...

he could cause problems for you with other thing then just sound.
one of my neighbors built a small 50cc type track for his kids, another neighbor complained about dust so he put in a sprinkler system, so then she bitched about noise. in the end the county would not allow him to have a "track". he can ride on his property but sence he built a track they shut him down.
keep checking with the sharrif and also chec with your buildingg dept. all countys are going to be different.

Thanks. I might stop by city hall and see if I can get some info. I have tried to be respectful. I dont ride before 10am and also dont ride after 6pm. Im willing to buy a quiet core, but he was complaining even with my stock pipe. I really dont want any problems, but I dreamed of my own land for years and here I am. On the flip side... he may have always dreamed of a QUIET place in the country, and here comes Mikey with his loud quad as his new neighbor.

i seriously doubt there is any noise ordinances in a rural area like that. but who knows for sure????
that sux, the guy isn't friendly. maybe you could keep an eye on him and if he is over at his place doing some work or sumthin maybe offer him a hand. try and get on his good side if at all possible i guess is what i am saying.
but keep on riding and doing ur thing. its your property to enjoy. i don't think you are breaking any laws.
good luck.

Yeah, thanks. I will try to stay on good terms. I was mostly wondering if I was breaking any laws. Not sure what the db's are with my new pipe? 100? 102? it is loud. The quiet core would supposebly drop it by 4-6 db.

they do not put a DB limit at all....
the only rules are: you cannot ride before 9:00 or after 10:00. simple as that....

Like mentioned before, every county is different. I have a friend in columbia county that went through the same thing you are right now. In that county you can not run anything at more then 110 db for more then 2 consecutive hours between the hours of 6 am - 10 pm. From 10:01pm - 5:59am you can not make over 60 db with out it disturbing the piece. Here is the catch, they dont check ur db level at ur pipe it is checked from the closest piont to the noise from the complainies property line. So I say ride it like you stole it until 10 pm. My buddys neighbor gave him so much grief for so long theat when it was all said and done my buddy put a speaker about 10 yards off the property line and plays elevator music 24/7 just loud enough that the nieghbors can here it. He has had to replace a few speakers over the last 2 years but he said its worth it. Just check with the county and see what the noise ordinance is for 6 am -10pm.

I would try my best to be as quiet as possible, but this guy sounds like an ass hat, F him. Find out what the noise ordinances are and make sure you are w/ in the limits. Other than that, like I said, F him. If he was cool about it, it would be a diofferent stroy, but coming out the very fisrt day and standing there staring at you? This guiy sounds like the kind of person who is never happy and is ALWAYS looking for something to complaion about. Those kind of people will never be happy, so screw him, no reason for both of you top be miserable. Just make sure you are w/ in the noice legal noise limits cuz I'm sure he knows what they are and is monitoring them.

If he wanted to control your yard he should have bought it first
I would ride as you please and if he starts a pissing match invite your friends over
heck maybe you should shoot some clay at 10:01 am
(that way in compairison the quads dont sound so loud)

just have about 20 of your friends bring their quads over and everyone ride for about 2 hours, after hearing all that noise he probably won't complain about just you riding anymore, if he does invite everyone back for another ride, he will figure it out, if you like chris could come by with his ESR pipe, that MF'er is about 150 DB !!!!

LOL. Luckily, my property is completely fenced in. I also have two very protective dogs. I wish I would have took a photo the other day when he fired up his old smoke machine Ford pick-up. He has it parked with the exhaust pointing into my yard. It is a major smoke machine. Theres no way he drives it. If he fires it up again, I will get some pics. I never ride more than 20 or 30 minutes at a time, and its not a daily thing either. I'm gonna play it cool and ride after 10 am and I also decided I wont ride it on Sundays. And I will probably pick up the quiet core for my pipe just so I can respect the rest of my neighbors. I prefer to have no problems. You never know how far someone will go. He could poison my dogs or something. But, if the smoking truck thing starts becoming a regular thing....... THERE JUST MIGHT BE AN ORG. GATHERING HERE IN WOODLAND!!!!!!! LMAO

His truck probably is a diesel the way it smokes. They dont drive it. Its parked next to my fence and never moves. He had it running the whole time I was riding last Friday. Maybe 20 or 30 minutes? I'm still surfing the web and not having too much luck finding out exactly what the law is for Clark County WA. I am in a rural area. I dont see how my ATV riding is any worse than mowing the yard, running a chain saw, etc. I have only met the guy one time. Him and his wife seem to keep to themselves. He didnt seem to friendly when we met. All my other neighbors would stop when they saw me in my yard or checking the mail and say hi and introduce themselves. The day I met him, I was ridding and noticed him standing at the fence watching me so I stopped to say hi. When I introduced myself his only reply was....... "Is this going to be an everyday thing?" LOL Since then I havent really been to intrested in talking to the guy. Havent really seen him since either. I did find this online this morning.
http://apps.leg.wa.gov/WAC/default.aspx?cite=173-60-040 Now, if this is the law..... I wouldnt even be able to mow the yard. I also was reading this....
http://www.rco.wa.gov/documents/rcfb/Grant..._noise_stdy.pdf In the study, I read this...
QUOTE
Washington State currently limits ORV sound levels to 105 dBA at
20 inches from the tailpipe, the highest tailpipe noise limit in the 13
states that have such limits.
It could be outdated though. According to Two Bros Tech support the db level on M7 VALE Slip-on for a 2007 Honda TRX 450R is approximately 103Db. With the P4 Silencer the sound is approximately 96Db. I havent rode since Friday when he had his truck running. I'm going to go do a few laps now and see what happens.

Thanks for all the replys. Just got off the phone with Greg at The State of Washington Recreation and Conservation Office. He was very helpful. He refered me to this site.
http://apps.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?cite=46.09.120 From what I gather, the noise limit is 105db. He said he wasnt aware of any noise resrictions in Clark County though, but suggested I contact the county to make sure.

I live in the middle of a small town here in Columbia County. We've lived in the same house since 1990 and my Dad lived here as a kid(and turned the side yard into a figure 8 track for his dirt bikes). My brother and I were working on our quads and we run them around our large side yard for a few minutes to make sure everything is working out. I guess one of our older neighbors told the neighbor who lives behind us and we've known forever that they were going to call the cops on us. We contacted the local PD and they said that if we're running them between like 10am and 9pm, we're fine and not to worry about it as they(the cops)can't do anything anyway.
Personally since the people didn't even approach us to talk about it, it just made me want to run my bike a lot more. It was odd that they complained of our bikes but a house two houses up from me had been being built at the time and they were running loud power tools all day for weeks.
There's some property that is toward the edge of town that the owners let people ride their quads and dirt bikes on all the time. This actually sits on the side of a ridge above the "rich street", I don't know of any complaints from riding up there, and we'll go up like 5 people at a time. I can hear the bikes on the ridge running a mile or so away sometimes if the wind is right.
People suck. Like everyone else said, I'd check w/ your local LE and see what the ordinances are for the area. Then whenever the guy comes out to "glare", just smile and wave.
Someone built a track out on HWY 47 right before it hooks back up with HWY 26 at Staley's Junction. A couple months later it was shut down. I think it may have been the same stuff, neighbors complaining and the county shutting it down as a track. Sucks as it looks like the guy put a lot of work into it.

I mostly ride up around Gunners' Lake between Vernonia and St Helens/Scappoose. I've yet to go up to Browns' Camp as most of the kids around here only ride on sand. I've rode a few random places out of town and then up on some people's property. Coming from community of 5 acre parcels out in the country, I can see both side of this. Part of the reason many people move to the country is for a quieter lifestyle, but I do enjoy riding on my property too. I try and be mindful of the others around and not be to obnoxious. If I really want to ride for long periods I head for the hills, dunes or track.
I was a bit surprised at the number of replies here that really did not care about what others thought. One thing to keep in mind is all it would take is one pissed off guy to get a hair up his ass and mount a big fight to get the ordinances changed and you could be out of luck completely. Just had an incident recently where one neighbor got so pissed off at the other, that he ened up shooting and killing him, so be wary of the crazy old man.

I dont know what county your in but since you live in the great anul WA state like me you have to watch out for the good old nuisance laws. There are some counties that have them and enforce them, so be careful. I see your side but there are laws to protect those that want peace and quiet. Unfortunately you have to do some research even when buying property in a rural area.
Nuisance laws dont follow any DB limit or anything like that. Its simply a matter of does what you do cause a nuisance to someone else. I think it all started when worthless pet owners leave there dogs out barking all day long.
If money grew on trees I would buy 40 acres tell em all fuck off..........LOL.
