I need some help setting up my suspension on my 05 450r. All the shocks are stock. When I go to the track and I land on top of a jump, my bike hops back up and almost sends me out of control. Is there something I can do to help or prevent this from happening? I know the compression setting is on the top and the rebound setting is on the bottom and you can adjust the spring also but I don't know what would be the best setting. Also I want to lower my bike a bit. I know you have to loosen the spring pre-load but will this make my bike bottom out more? My shocks have the factory settings if this helps.

Hi Bryan,
You are experiencing SSSS, Sucky Stock Suspension Syndrome. Stock rebound screwed all the way in which you never want to completely bottom this out (towards - H) is still too fast, Spring preload backed all the way out is still too high and spring rates are too soft for MX. We all have gone through this and that is why we design and make our own kits. However, to get through temporarily, screw the rear rebound (rod end side ) all the way hard H and back out 1/2 a turn - Don't bottom this screw out hard, just lightly. Back off the rear preload all the and back out the front until the front frame height from the ground is 3/8 to 5/8" higher than the rear (measured under radiator and foot pegs with you standing up not sitting). That's all you can do brother until your ready to buy some suspension. Hope you keep us in mind when you do our value is one of the best in the country.

Lol I like how you put that and thanks for the help. I'm going to dial in those settings whenever I get some time. I've checked out your site a couple times and I have thought about getting my rear shock revalved by you guys I just don't have the money at the moment. I was wondering if your rear conversion price includes valving, new spring, and if it was made for a GTT link.

I just put 80 miles on a nice new Jet revalved rear on sunday and all I can say is WOW. I had a works stadium rear that was set up for me but I was never satisfied with it. It worked a lot better than the stocker but it still bucked and switched up in the rough stuff.
We rode up a river bed for about 5 miles of water and rocks ranging from 3-18" and I booked it in 3rd all the way up and there is no way I coulda done that in with my old rear. It was a workout but the quad never scared me. When I got to the end I had to wait about 10 minutes for the guys I ride with to catch up. They have a 700XX and an Outlaw 525IRS. Usually on stuff like that their IRS gives them the advantage through stuff like that because I would be all over the place bouncing side to side. Instead They are both very close to getting some new suspension.

That's some very good information because like I said I wanted to get my rear shock revalved there but I haven't really heard anything about their work. Did you get their single rate or dual rate conversion kit?
mysticfalcon
I did the dual rate. I already had the GT link. The GT link by itself lowers things are reduces bucking a little tiny bit but they did a great job with the shock. I have a Motowoz & JD +2 front end and that was great but it left my rear really lacking and I couldnt afford the Motowoz rear. Now I almost wish I would have just given Jet my fronts. I love the motowoz but they seem to be very well matched so I think their redone fronts would have been pretty similar for a lot less money.

I have a GTT link ordered. I'm still waiting for it to come in so when I get that in I'll try it out but after that my next thing is definetly going to be my rear shock revalve and from what your telling me I'm pretty sure that I'm going to get it done by Jet. I was thinking about getting my complete suspension revalved and resprung but I think I might just go completely LT in the upcoming summer because I hear that it's way better and it's almost the same price. I don't really want to spend all of that money at one time but I want to get something that I'll be happy with for a long time.

Hey Nick,
I adjusted the back today and it's coming out good. I'm going to adjust the front tomorrow. I'm getting a GTT MX link pretty soon just waiting for it to be shipped but I was just wondering if the settings that you recommended me will need to be changed again for the link? Thanks for your help again.
