Been out in Glamis the last few days, everything seemed fine. Got back, took the power washer to quad, cleaned her up. Then, I tried to roll it back into the garage, had it in gear, pulled the clutch in and tried to push it but there is a lot of resistance. I can kind of hear what sounds like gears turning, like I am turning them by pushing the quad. It used to roll almost like it was in neutral w/ the clutch in, now it won't even roll dowhill.

Also, if I try to start it in gear w/ the clutch in, it jumps.

So, WTF? I can't imagine I hurt it w/ the power washer. COuld something have happend in Glamis I didn't notice? It feels like the clutch is only half engaged, but I don't know if that is even possible or how it would have happened.

Any ideas are appreciated.

im gunna bet the quad is cold when you try this start it up and let it idle for a little bit just it off pop it in gear and try to push it ill bet you can dont worry its pretty normal dont ask me why just is lol

Mine does the same thing with it's cold..

Clutch plates are worn. Replace them with OEM fibers and steels. I forget the name of the good aftermarket springs but I'm pretty sure its black widow.

It's never dopen this before, I could always roll it just fine w/ the clutch in before. Come to think of it, a couple of times this weekend I would try ti shift and end up hitting neutral or some gear I wasn't going for. Clutch being worn sounds more like it. thanks Derek

I'd try to adjust it out first. However, I think everyone has experienced that problem from time to time. I normally deal with mine acting up, and just put the bike in neutral when I need to move it around.

I tried to push around my cousin's Kawi dirtbike and it does exaclty the same thing, he says all of his do that. Maybe there is nothing wrong w/ mine, I just never noticed this. But I've had it almost 4 years now and have never noticed this, I thought I could always push it around in gear w/ the clutch in. Maybe I'm just paranoid.

Can you guys push yours around in gear w/ the cluthc pulled in? I always thought mine would roll fine, not quite as easy as when in neutral, but almost. Now, when I try to push it, I get that 2 or 3 inches of play and then it catches, just like whenit's in gear and the cluthc is out. But when it catches that gear, I can still push it, but barely and I can feel what feels likes gears turning against each other. Like I said, that Kawi dirtbike did exactly the same thing and it's a brand new race bike.

So, am I just paranoid?

Do you notice that if you put your quad in first pull the clutch in and rev the engine that your bike moves backwards about an inch and then back to its original position? Thats normal. But if it crawls forward on pavement without giving it gas you probably just need to adjust your clutch cable. Personally for the amount of wear that i'm going to get i leave my cable that tight. But if you don't notice any difference after playing with the adjustments just pull your cover and check your plates it only takes 20 minutes.

Mine does exactly the same thing, i was wondering about this also. I often hit neutral ,or it downshifts on its own occasionally? Is this the clutch?

My '08 does the same thing. When I put it in gear, pull the clutch, and try to roll it, it still catches like if I were trying to push it gear without the clutch pulled in. It acts normal when I'm riding it though, if I'm riding and pull the clutch it stops and doesn't want to keep going or jerk forward or anything like that. I only notice it when I'm moving it around when the quad is not running so I didn't think much of it and just put it in neutral if I need to move it. It does make me curious though question.gif
