I use Simple Green and an SOS pad. It works really well where your knee rubs the plastic and tank.

It may be too late to help you now but what I do is buy white number plate backing and cover the places that get the worst of it. That cleans up easy and protects the plastic underneath.

If they are bad wet sanding works well. I use at least 800 grit, cleans and smooths out the scratches. It will be dull when done so you have to bring the shine back with rubbing compound or plastic renew.

i race XC and one of the best things i have found to clean a bike after a race is wesleys bleach white. i have white and black plastic on mine. i just wash it off with a pressure washer then spray W.B.W all over it , everywhere plastic, motor, tires, you name it everywhere. wait a couple minutes then spray if off. it takes all of the mud stains off and everything havent hand scrubbed my bike since been doing it for a yaer with no problems LOOKS GOOD when done.

I just used a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser for the first time last night. It will really take out the brown mud stains without effort. It's magic!!!

X2 -- try it next time you get bug's on your truck mirrors and that plastic below the front bumper.
My truck windshield is etched from acid rain and I can clean it with a magic eraser and it'sm clear as a bell.

Where I ride its mostly Iron Ore and nothing works quite like a MR. Clean magic eraser, I'd reccomend those...fairly cheap if you buy like a walmart or target brand.
