Hello guys, i'm getting started in MX and in the market for some new arms and have narrowed it down to two mgfs, JD performance and Lonestar. JD makes the +2 and Lonestar the +2+1. Some have said to stick with the +2 and others say with the +2+1. I called each mfg fro some input, but all back up their product. I want some facts on the subject from people who have ran the set ups. I've been told that the +2+1 pushes in the turns, correct?? or not? I've also read that the +2+1 help with turning??? If it helps these are going on a 2007 450er. Hope you guys can help me. Thanks

You narrowed your choices down to two very popular brands. Honestly, you can not go wrong with either brand. JD Performance is a fast growing company who supports atv community forums and LSR supports factory racers.

+2+1 in my opinion improves the ride quality and keeps the front end from coming up as easily. I guess you would experience some pushing if you didn't have aggressive front tires though. I didn't notice a problem with +2+1 a-arms mounted up on a 04 450r.

I'm sure JD Performance can build a set of +2+1 a-arms if it's a deciding factor for you.

We have JD Performance a-arms listed on our website: JD Performance Honda TRX450R Long Travel A-Arms

We also have Lone Star a-arms listed on our website : Lone Star DC4 Long Travel Honda TRX450R A-Arms

TRX450R Owners mention this add at the checkout and receive a 25.00 KBM gift card on JD Performance Long Travel A-Arms and 75.00 gift card on LSR Long Travel A-arms.

I searched on the website but everubody seems to have their own opinion. I have been told that if i had an extended swinger that the plus 1 forward on the aarms would balance everything out. But i'm sticking with my stock swingarm. I'm not leaning to a side yet i want to get the facts first to see what i will get.

I am by no means an expert, but this is what I have been told or read about plus forward a-arms on a 450R. Unless you are riding desert, you do not want them. They actually make the front lighter, as more weight is transferred to the rear. Think about it this way, your stock wheelbase, your engine is at a certain location in relation to the wheelbase. If the front wheels go forward one inch, the engine will actually be farther back in relation to the wheelbase, hence the reason more weight on the rear.

More weight on the rear is not a really a good thing on the 04/05 machines, that is the reason Honda went to a longer swingarm on the 06 and newer, not sure if plus forward arms is a benefit on the later machines.

The Teixeira Tech a-arms on my 450R’s are actually slightly forward, (Not sure how much “slightly” is, as I never asked.) but my 450R’s are set up for desert racing, and Teixeira Tech makes a desert specific a-arm, so I run them. I know Teixeira Tech also makes XC and MX arms, and they are not plus forward anything, so he must not see a benefit to going plus forward for that style of riding. I also run a later model longer swingarm on my 450R’s, but the reason is I had to due to my linkage choice. Not sure how the longer swingarm plays into this.

If you notice, not too many manufactures offer plus forward arms for the 450R, so that should tell you something. I personally think that +1 forward arms are a carry over from the 250R days, as just about all 250R a-arms were forward. Guess they figured if it worked then it should work now.

Again, this is just what I have learned; I am not even close to being a suspension expert. Before running my slightly forward arms, I ran a regular set, but since I changed everything, (Arms, shocks, swingarm.) it is not really a fair comparison, so I really can not comment on the difference between the two. Not really sure any of this helped in your decision, but hopefully at least gave you some things to think about.

Well i called lonestar and they said that they used to have a +2 only set up nothing forward but they began testing the +2+1 and they resulted to be better arms according to all their testing. Some people on the forum have said that they really couldnt turn with the +2+1 set up and they hated it.

Doug i have read the same info you state about the transfering weight to the rear. I asked lonestar about it and they said that really wouldnt happen.

Well I can say that my JD +2 arms are great. big difference. I dont think I would want to go forward any because my 450 pushes enough already if I dont get over the front end in the real tight stuff.

the 06 and up honda's are known for a push in corners, thats why alot of people switch over to the 04-05 front end. i personally have an 04 honda with a stock 04-05 length swingarm and lsr +2+1 a-arms and i never have an issue with the front end pushing. in fact the rear slides a lot more than the front. i think either way you would be happy with the setup. o and btw lsr can make a +2+0 arm. its just not advertised.

if i were you i would do what a lot of people do with the 06+ honda...buy a 04-05 +2 front end, make sure to buy 04-05 spindles n hubs otherwise the front end wont fit on... a lot of people back this up as it makes their machine turn better...
Leoz400
i've heard about the 04-05 spindle swap. I spoke with dave at JD and he said his a-arms would work with both spindle set ups. JD looks like a great product and everybody around here likes it.

yeah +1 arms do carry over from the 250r days thats why all those no name brands on ebay do it cuz they dont have a clue stay with just +2 trust me its well worth it in the end i love lonestar but it seems they are sorta stuck in the past and try to reuse old ideas try jd performance its the best bet if i didnt run housers id run jd quality stuff

I have the lsr 2.5+ 1+ standard travel on my 07 450er and I love them...But I hate the lsr ball joints. I race mx and need ball joints every three or four months. thumbdown.gif I am looking into putting Heim joints on them for next season.

Well thanks alot to everyone that chimed in and gave me some opinions. I've decided to go with the JD std race a-arms. I'll post some pics when i recieve and make an install.

your switching to heims? typically heims wear down fast than ball joints because they are not sealed. i can go a couple of seasons on ball joints easily.
