While adjusting the decompressor and then checking compression trying to get to 65psi for an '06 ER, do you have to put the valve cover back on while cranking it over? I mean can I just leave the cover off during this process or is it going to make a huge oily mess everywhere?

Thanks!

You'll be fine without the cover on. Just keep a rag handy although I don't think it will be needed.

Thanks for the fast reply... That's what I was hoping. I just didn't want to try and then wish I didn't.

I'd set it on there without bolting it down or you'll get oil thrown from the timing chain.

Or leave it off and wash the bike down when you get it buttoned up.
