should i tape off the axle? what does this help? when i got the quad it was taped off but i took it off to but a new barring carrier in let me know if i should tape it back up

what is taped? The whole axle or just the nut? Is it stock or after market? On my Z i taped the whole thing off cause it was a +4 and it was chrome, so i wrapped it with electrical tape for a few reasons
1. I hate shiney stuff
2. the clear came off when i pressure washed it, started it rust
3. Keeps it lookin like new when i went to sell it

If the lock nut is stock, no need to tape that either, but mine on the Z came loose sometimes (aftermarket), and ducttaping it would hold up to 5-6 rides on track instead of half of one... so thats what i think bout tape and axles LOL

Tape on the axle would serve no purpose but cosmetics. I always tape the locknut. It will keep it from coming loose.

yeah the lock nuts can come loose. Just tape the nut to prevent it from coming loose while riding.
Clean the threads good, tighten up that lock nut, then tape it up.
