I just picked up a 2005 TRX 450R. It's my first wheeler. It has numerous mods to it. Full Sparks exhaust, high compression Wiseco piston, cam, and a few other things. Anyway, I am having a hard time finding neutral. It always seems to jump right to second gear. When I do find it, it stays in neutral just fine, but it's just a pain to find it. Is it normally that touchy?

When the engine is running it is rather hard and almost impossible to find neutral, if it's rolling, it's pretty easy.
turn the engine off and first try you'll find neutral, not sure technically why it does this, but it's normal.

It is the design of Tranny. My 05' 450R and 85' ATC 200X are the same. Changing tranny fluid does help, but when fluid goes bad you will notice it getting harder to find neutral

I Had the same problem. Ever since I got my new clutch set up it has went away. And I change my oil often.

If you give it a little gas while its running, it will fall right into neutral.

You'll notice that if you shift to first, pull the clutch, and give it throttle the back tires will try to move forward about half an inch. The setup is pretty tight. Thats why when you are rolling it is easier to find neutral or if you give it a bit of throttle to force a "gap" its easier to find neutral. There isn't really a fix since it isn't a problem.

could this be the reason that it sometimes likes to slip into neutral from 1st to 2nd when accelerating hard?
