I just picked up a 99 banshee. I want to build it. It currently has fmf gold pipes on it. What is going to get it to 60+ hp. I wanted to stay stock bore. I was thinking porting and then??? Any input would be helpful.

prlandry
I hear the are pretty easy to reach big HP numbers
prlandry
I also heard that pipes will wake them up big time

Dont do anything to the stock head. Buy an aftermarket one. Cool heads by pro design are pretty good~!
darmo21
go with higher compression pistons, a boost bottle, reeds, jet it, and a cool head. Fast & Fun~! Not sure how much hp that will put you around.

Get some good porting ,different intakes,36 alky lectron carbs, and some diff pipes.

besides Banshee HQ where is a good website to do some reading up on the topic.

Hey bro you can reach 60 hp pertty easy and at a very cheap budget. First off you dont need a high compression pistons, just a good aftermarket one will do you just fine. You can aquire higher compression with a pro design cool head with interchangable domes, You will want to start off with about a 20 or 21 cc dome and that will get you to about 165 psi. You can run up to about 190 psi but unless you do a lot of upgrades 165 will do you just fine. Second is youre stock carbs will do just fine for a real strong stock bore/stroke build. I hit 87hp on my last build with stock carbs, that will save you a bunch of money. Third is youre reeds, you need to go with a good set of reeds to allow for the airflow that you will need. Next is going to be the most expensive upgrade and thats porting the cylinders, this will be a huge hp gain if done correctly. Ive been involved in about 30 banshee builds and have built 4 of my own so i could give you a few suggestions on were to take youre cylinders, just shoot me a pm if you need any info on cylinder work. That alone should get you between 60 and 70 hp. JOSHB had some good advise with the pipes youre gold series pipe are a decent all around pipe but they will hold you back on a good build. I would suggest going with at least a toomy T-5 , and if you have allitle extra cash roll with the CPI or SHEAR pipes They will gain you the most hp but are alittle spendy. Stay away from the T-6 pipes they are crap. If you shop around you can find real good deals on all these add ons. Good luck with youre build buddy. You will love it when it all comes together. If you have any questions or need any parts shoot me a pm, I have lots of friends that are still running banshees and i might be able to help ya save a little money.
BALL PARK PRICES--------------
COOL HEAD 150.00
REEDS 150.00
GOOD PORT WORK 350.00
TOOMY T-5s 250.00 CPI OR SHEARS 450.00

TOTAL 60-70HP ABOUT 900.00 TO 1100.00

When I bought the bike it didn't run, and after a couple of weekend and some beer I got it running.

I found some jugs that are ported but need to be bored and honed and also a milled head. Not sure how much has been taken off the milled head.

Just thinking out loud but if I'm at 100 psi now and I have a worn top end and I put a milled head on it would it read higher on the compression gauge or would it not hold much over 100 psi?

Couldn't find any dyno sheets, and wanting to know if it was worth it to lighten the flywheel and get a advance timing plate. I don't want to spend $ 200 just to get another 1/2 a horse out of it.

LMAO we dynod my wifes bike and lost 2 hp with the boost bottle. Just think, inventing something that in no way shape or form is worth a crap and selling millions of them bacause of the name.

putting a milled head or cool head with smaller domes to up the compression on a worn
out top end is asking for trouble.
definately get the adjustable timing plate. you can pick up a ricky stator for about 35$.
i have never used a lightened flywheel. i have seen a lot of them come apart on other's
bikes.
a lot of good info here. a good port job is the best bang for the money. pipes, adj timing
plate, cool head with interchangable domes, aftermarket reeds and cages will all give your
banshee a nice kick in the pants.

If your top ends wore your not going to see much with a different head to boost compression as its still going to bleed off around the rings. The fatty pipes will really hold you back on extreme use but with a stock stroke stock bore build they will work ok. On my buddies banshee we built it with a brand new stock stroke crank bored .030 and ported with 21cc domes in a pro design head and had awesome results. In the sand nothing was coming close for all around riding because of the fattys helping with the the bottom end which banshees have none of. The porting is the best bang for the buck upgrade I know of on a banshee then the cool head just for adjustability of compression. One thing to watch out for is a 4mm stroker 5mm long rod set up we built two bikes with this setup and lost quite a bit of hp with it went back to just a 4mil crank and gained it all back.

I have ported cylinders, timing plate, fresh top end, k n filter and a milled head. I just did a compression check and im at 150 psi. Right now its not running right. I'm have carb rebuilt kits and different jets that I'm play around with this weekend. Hoping that jetting is the problem.

I think that I am going to keep this a stock stroke/bore. For now.

boots bottles dont do anything. get the pipes and porting and carbs to all match that is the key. then reds with cool heads around 210psi. and get an air fliter you be making alot more hp.

Shee is a live and finally running!

take them ''junk'' fmf pipes off and turn them in for scrap metal, u might get 2 bucks for them''go down an pick up a set of t5 toomeys and throw on it and you will think you just turn'd on a nos bottle'''' turst me, you can thank me latter.

I was thinking about that but I was told that the gains would be small and if I was upgrading that I should get a set of cpi instead
darmo21
IMO The ToomeyT5 probably are the best, But not worth buying if you already have the FMF

I run cpi's and also run shearer!!!!!! I think they r hands down the best pipes out for the banshee!!!!!!! Granted without proper porting and carbs u won't see any "real" gains in just pipes!!!!
dunner250
Its ported but has stock carbs.

Really depends on who ported the motor especially stock cylinders!!!!! I've found that u really need someone who knows their stuff to port stock cylinders to make good power!!!!! U can always gain by bigger carbs but to big can hurt power also!!!!!!

BLUEANDWHITEBANSHEE
hey man if u need any help and looking for another banshee forum besides BansheeHQ go to www.bansheecentral.com there is alot of good guys there that can help alot ...if u register tell them that blueandwhitebanshee referred you
PLANET ASPHALT
There's alot you can do.
But also be careful what is out there. Many things don't work like they say.
Boost bottle is one of them.
No one makes high compression pistons for Banshee.

I have been racing Banshee's since they 1st came out in 1986.
From moto-x to 9 second 1/4 mile drags.

What are you going to use the Banshee for.??
