O.K. maybe you've seen my other two threads, but heres the skinny:
I bought a 07 trx450er from a fella, you had to roll start it, but once you did, it ran great, I called several dealers, and aske you'all, and everyone agreed, it needed a valve adjustment. So I went ahead and bought it.
I took it to the race shop, the next day, and told him to adjust the valves, he said no problem. The next day, he called and said the valves were going to be able to be shimmed one more time and then they needed to be replaced, and that I needed a timing chain. So I told him to replace it. Yesterday he called and said that he replaced the timing chain and than he ran the tensioners all the way out and the belt is still sloppy, and that it's going to be a matter of time before it jumps time and ruins the engine.
Then he tells me that I need to replace the crankshaft, and the camshaft, to get the slop out of the timing chain.
I told him to put it back together, and I'd pay what I owed and come and get it. I found another guy that is from arizona and said he is very familiar whith that machine, and he would work on it from his house and save me some money on labor. And he says that the other fuy sounds fishy to him.
What do you think?

"Then he tells me that I need to replace the crankshaft, and the camshaft, to get the slop out of the timing chain."
Now that's a load of BS.... sounds like he was trying to screw you over.
You sure he didn't leave the old timing chain in there and charged you for a new one?... How much was the repair bill?

to have the valves shimmed and replace the timing chain, I owe him 250.00.
He is a race shop, and sponsors alot of racers, I kinda think he might just want me to say the hell with it, and sell it to him.

I'd change mecanics and get a second opinion.
After someone would tell me to change the crank and cam to take out the slop out of the timing chain... I would go get my bike and never go there again.

TRX is Honda's model name for quad (TRX250ex, TRX400ex, TRX250R, and so on) ... The TRX450R has only been around for five years.

You know , it's pretty interesting that the other posts that I've made I havent seen any on you reply to offer advice, ( except for one of you), but how quickly the rest of you have managed to reply with smart ass remarks.
I have been trying to get some advice, and maybe some encouragement about the problems that I'm having, but maybe this isnt the right place.
Here is ALL I know about the man who has offered me advice, solutions and help with my problems: He is from Arizona, rode in the dunes alot he says. Also stated that the trx, and the yzf( I think that is what yamaha calls there racing quad, but I'm sure you'll make fun if not), are the most popular bikes around up there.
He has been working on motorcycles for 20 years, taught at the Motorcycle Mechanics Institute for 2 years, His name is Andrew Ellis.
He is currently employed by the cycle shack on Williamson rd. in Roanoke, Virginia, and told me that he could take my bike home and work on it there and save me alot on labor.
I hope this is good enough for you all, and maybe I have provided enough information about basically the only person that has been willing to offer some sort of solution to my problem.
