Well I have a 2006 honda trx450er and I have got it to starting pretty good of the line. But my problems is when you stall the machine out in the woods, you can't hardly get it started back until you let it cool off. I wood just like to know what the problem is, and what I could do about it. Any tips would be nice.

they start much easier in neutral

if that doesn't help... try setting your decompresor and adjust your valves.

First check your intake valves to make sure they have the right amount of clearance, I have the same problems, just this last sunday I was in a hare scramble, had a good start and was 3rd into the woods then about a mile in it stalled and I could not get it to start, I havent had my top end done in about two years so I know i need a rebuild and you may be in the same boat. Also the batteries are not strong enough, they only put out around 125 cold cranking amps and it needs to be closer to 200, which you would need a bigger battery or put two on it as talked about in other threads. This is a known problem, and I am currently fighting it too.

I have an 06 with the same issue. My valves are in spec and my jetting is about spot on. I have my decompressor is set at about 60psi.

I went with the dual battery set up wired in series. Made a huge difference. I beat a YFZ off the line and took the holeshot at my last XC race which is hard to do seeing how fast they start.

It also helped alot with the stall issue. Before it would take 15 seconds to get the thing to fire. Now when I stall it I am running again within a couple of seconds. I didnt think the dual battery would help that issue, but it sure did.

There are diagrams floating around that will show you how to wire it. You have a few options where to locate your second battery. I bought a small 12V battery from Wal-mart for $50 and it sits in the space where the tool kit was stored real nice. I spent about $65 total on the second battery and about an hour to install.

Good luck with whatever direction you decide to go.

what about one of those xstaic battery or a oddesy battery i know that they are good in cars for loud systems just kinda wonder if they would work on the quads ...i am having the same problem also guys so i feel your pain and aggervation.. and also what kinda cold cranking amps are we discussing about ? i was consdiering a cbr900 or one of those above for a little better crankability..

the stock battery puts out 125 cold cranking amps, which is not enough when the motor gets warm, adding a second battery or going to a bigger one and making a new battery tray would help. I was looking at getting a battery that has 200cca due to a long time fellow racer telling me he had do to the same to his and he tested his and determined that the started need around 200cca to have enough to start the quad when warm, hope this helps

yell ill tell from my experince.. it could be the battery but then it could be the valve train to .. i was thinking it was the batery but until today, i found out it is the valve train so come to find out it all needs to be replaced..so while the head is off its going to be ported and polished with a new valve job.. and that really sucks beings i dont have that cash laying around right now.. but oh well .. something want get paid this month lol .. got to have my quad .. lol any body have a good suggestion on a good intake system that want allow so much dirt to get in ,, let me know .. that velocity crap is outa here..
