Not a member on any yfz forums so I thought I would ask you here. I am putting a crank in an 06 for a guy. He is looking for reliability. How are the hot rod stroker cranks holding up on stock pistons and do they still need to be balanced? Also, shoudl I go ahead and look into doing the oil squirter mod for him and if I do it does it need an 07 up oil pump installed.
Also, on cams, thought about doing the timing mod or have read to instal a stock yzf exhaust cam and it would still start good, any info on this?
Thanks

The cam timing trick is known as the "cam mod", and all it involves is retarding the exhaust cam one tooth. A very small number of people have reported harder starting after doing the cam mod, but most people (myself included) have not noticed any negative impact.
As for the Hot Rod stroker cranks, it seems the trick is to have the piston and crank balanced together by a shop such as Crank Works.
The oil squirter mod is never a bad idea and can be done without using an 07 pump. The 07 pump flows a little bit more oil, but only because the tooth count on the gears is different, causing it to spin faster. Other than that that pumps are the same.

Thanks for the info. Definately doing the oil mod, not sure on the cam mod yet though.
