Finally got a 450r about 3 months ago. 05 got put together in 07 (got it from a buddy). Taking this year as a practice year on the track and plan on riding mx next year. The quad is basically stock with a k&n filter/prefilter and jus put on some pro taper se mid atv. I plan on working the suspension the most. But first for the engine all i want to do is a pipe (Dr.d slip-on ok?) and a hrc jet kit but i dont want to mess with the cam or nething jus the jet. Thinking about opening the airbox but dont want to cut a hole in it(so does the k&n airbox lid ok?) Also i want to do a top end rebuild over the winter because its been rode for almost 3 years now. Im gettting a pair of itp beadlocks 8x8 but cant seem to find a tire (mxr6 18x10x8 ok?). Another thing its been trail ridin for its life and when i washed it the other day pushed teh front end down and sounded like there was sand in teh shocks (is there anythign i can do about it?). Any opinions/suggestions about what im thinking would be appreciated. Sorry for being so long.

Thanks

dont go with the slip on man. you will be disapointed and will want a full exhaust in the future. go for either a curtis sparks, dasa, or rossier full exhaust. then open up the lid, jet it and maybe the green wire mod. i know you dont want to put a cam in it( i was the same way) but the stock 450 cam holds it back a lot. get a hot cam stage 2 or a curtis sparks mx cam. razr mx tires are pretty cheap and they are made for mx so....ya. if you dont use them defianetely run 18s for mx. im not sure about your suspension... good luck and a lot of other people on here will have better things to say then me but thats what i would do beacuse its reliable and fast. good luck man

Did you already buy your cam? if not I have one cheap
mhsrb23
Well its time to rebuild the motor now. What gasket kits are you guys using. I was just going to do top end but i read the crank bearing problems with the old r's. The motor has never been touched other then when i jetted it. Its low hours for the year I wanting to get the crank problem taken care of. Im going with a wiseco 12:5:1 piston. Im going to wait on the cam for another time as im buying an xc ling from gt also. What else should I do while i got it apart. I remember seeing peopel also get a new t-stat and an oil pump or something?

Thanks
mhsrb23

If your running MX id go with the Stage 2 hotcam. The Stage 1 has mad bottom but if your on a big MX track you will need more mid too high. Ive ran both. And for me the stage 2 was a no brainer.
