I just bought a used 450r so I went to a dealership to buy some oil. The parts guy told me to use red bottle on both the tranny and motor. Is this right? It seems a little weird to use the same oil for both sides.

Little weird is right!
Red bottle for tranny side and Honda GN4 10W/40 for the motor side.
Thats what I use anyway.. I'm sure you'll get a lot of responses from others. I've never heard of anyone using the red bottle for the motor side.

I just use the honda brand on both sides..What year is your quad because the amount the tranny side takes differs depending on the year of your bike, so the manuals say...
