A lot of people I know have a cam on their quad and it seems to help the quad a lot. Are they worth the money though?

Depends on the quad but on the honda 450's it's one of the best upgrades you can do for the price. This paired up with a full exhaust and the airbox lid removed and green wire mod and it's like a new bike. I had to get used to mine all over again.

Web cam send the extra money and you'll have a beast. Stay with a stock bore, web cam, High comp piston (full Race) remove your lid cut the greenwire, I added a dyna tec, bore the carb and she will run with the best.

on the 450r the stock cam is really really holding the motor back.... that would be the first thing i would change on the 450r for sure
